Deacon J.D. Sypher departed this life on Monday evening, October 11, 2010. He was a native and resident of Reevesville, SC born October 3, 1921. He was the son of the late Elijah and Ollie Hood Sypher.

Deacon Sypher's early education began in the public schools of Dorchester County. He also served a tour of duty in Germany during World War 2. He delighted in doing his best: after 50 years of dedicated service with the U.S. Army Depot in Charleston, SC, he retired.

At an early age, he united himself with White Stone Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Superintendent and Chairman of the Deacon Board. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the McBranch Missionary and Educational Union for 50 years.

He loved going to various churches, to the unions, revivals and other community functions.

On April 27, 1958, Deacon Sypher was united in marriage to Leanna Player. This union was blessed with four children. One child preceded him in death, Emma Gail Sypher.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories: a devoted wife, Leanna Sypher; two sons, Edmond Clayton Syphertt (Gloria) of Reevesville, SC and Eric D. Syphertt (Jona') of Lawrenceville, GA; one daughter (who was daddy's little girl), Julie Sypher Adams Dicks (Ross) of Reevesville, SC; nine grand children, Calundra, Shana, Tacari, Julian, Eric Jovahn, Andrea, Matthew, Shanice, Christain; one great grand child, Jayla; three sisters, Neather Sypher, Beaulah Lucas and Carrie Ravenell all of Reevesville, SC; two sisters-in-law, Christine Thomas of Rockville, MO and Delinda Daniels of Bronx, NY; two brothers-in-law, Sammy Haynes of Grover, SC and Jeffery McFadden of Lake City, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is now with his loved ones—his parents, his daughter, Emma Gail, his siblings, Henry Sypher, Earl Sypher, Hardy Sypher, Beatrice Britt, Eva Rasberry, and Nettie Haynes.
