"For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Hence forth there is laid up there for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them, also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:6-8

Mother Jannie Lee Stephens-Moultrie, the fourth child of eight, was born on September 6, 1914, to the late William Stephens and Nettie Senior Stephens. She went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 after a brief illness. Four brothers and three sisters preceded her death—Elex Stephens, William Stephens, Allen Stephens, Sr., J.C. Stephens, Pansy Cobbs, Evelyn Hudson and Ruth Stephens.

Mother Moultrie received her formal education through the South Carolina school system. On May 9, 1936, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, the late Joshua Moultrie by the Reverend W.P. Williams. This union was blessed with eight beautiful children.

In 1948, the family migrated to New York City. Jannie Lee took the helm of being the mother to all her nieces and nephews. For example, when any family member wanted to migrate north and did not have a place t stay, she would allow them to say with them.

As a child, Mother Moultrie attended Good Hope Baptist Church, but after migrating to New York, she became a member of the Saint John's Pentecostal Church from 1948-1975. She was a dedicated and devoted member. She served the church faithfully as an active member of the usher and mother board.

In 1975, she relocated back to St. George, South Carolina where she joined Brown's Chapel F.B.H. Church. She was the president of the Usher Board and Mothers' Board; and she was also a member of the Culinary Committee.

Mother Moultrie's hobbies included cooking, baking and caning for her family and love ones. She loved her family, church and the Lord.

She leaves to cherish beautiful memories: four sons, Christopher (Claudine) of Brooklyn NY, Zaid Abdullah (Bonnie) of Manhattan, NY, Clarence of Bronx, NY and William of St. George SC; four daughters, Ella (Harold) Smith and Elease (Bob) Holmes both of Bronx, NY, Brenda Moultrie of Manhattan, NY and Barbara (Rodney) of St. George, SC; 25 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Stephens of St. George, SC, Inez Stroud of Detroit, MI, Marie Lewis of New York City, NY, and Lucille (Kenneth) Tracy of Bronx, NY; four brothers-in-law, John (Jessie) of Queens, NY, Moses (Alice) of Sumter, SC, Marion (Carrie) and Reverend Isaiah (Eula) both of Orangeburg, SC; a special niece, Stacy Govan and a countless number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
