Jannie Ruth
Britt
Aug 17, 1940 — May 15, 2020
St. George
Mrs. Jannie Ruth Britt quietly departed this life on Friday, May 15, 2020 after long standing declining health. She was born August 17, 1940 in Dorchester County, the daughter of the late Humphrey and Sarah Cobb. Her siblings Willard (RC), Jonathan, and Queen Esther all preceded her in death.
Jannie was educated at Williams Memorial High School, salutatorian of the 1959 graduating class.
After graduation, she married her long time sweetheart, Paul Britt. They were united in holy matrimony, May 21, 1960, and for better or worse, and in sickness and health, they lived out their vows to each other for nearly 60 years. God blessed this union with four children.
Jannie was a very determined woman. When she set her mind to perform a task, she saw it through. The things that were most important to her were her faith, her friends, and her family.
Jannie became a member of St. Mark Baptist Church at an early age. She loved serving in whatever capacity she thought would be pleasing to God and bring joy to others. She had served as church secretary, a member of the Adult Choir, Mother of the church, and other various church activities. She performed her duties lovingly and faithfully until she was no longer able.
Jannie also loved her community. Mr. Paul is known for his love of gardening and generosity, and Jannie enjoyed sharing the bounty of their blessings with family and friends. Those who were sick and shut-in were especially grateful for their visits. The community thought of them as missionaries.
Last, but not least, she loved her family. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was also spoiled by her loving and devoted husband. Seeing that her husband and children were taken care of in every aspect was her utmost priority. Nothing pleased her more than preparing a home cooked meal and having her family around her table enjoying each others company.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted husband, Paul Britt, St. George, SC; three daughters, Gretchen Britt, Columbia, SC, Janice (Curtis) Richardson, Florence, SC and Salathia (Michael) Rorie, Charlotte, NC; one son, E. (Mary); one brother, Leroy Cobb, St. George, SC; two brothers-in-law, Benny (Rose) Britt, Egg Harbor Twp, NJ and Ernest Britt, Orangeburg, SC; four sisters-in-law, Lether Thomas, St. George, SC, Francis (Max) Folds, Martinez, GA, Susie Queen (Rev. General Britt, Jr.), St. George, SC and Nellie Rose Primus, St. George, SC; two grandchildren, Brandon Britt and Micah Rorie, both of Charlotte, NC; two great grandchildren, Nalaysia and Erinn Summers, Jr., Charlotte, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
