James E.
Carn
Jul 21, 1963 — Aug 28, 2026
Saint George
James Edward “Rick” Carn entered eternal rest Friday, August 28, 2026. He was born July 21, 1963, in Dorchester County, South Carolina to the late Barbara Ann Williams and the late Joseph Goodwin.
He was adopted and lovingly raised by the late Richard and Ada Jane Carn. Through their love, guidance, and care, he was blessed with a family foundation that helped shape the man he would become.
He was married to Barbara Washington. He was blessed with a loving daughter Davina Long who preceded him in death.
He attended Harleyville-Ridgeville High School and was a proud member of the Class of 1982.
He worked for St. George Nursing Home. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at Elem Baptist Church, where he was a member.
He was affectionately known by many as “James or Rick”, a man who could make his presence known wherever he went. He was a people person who genuinely loved those around him.
He had a warm personality and if he met you, chances were, you were going to remember him.
He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether someone needed assistance with a project or simply needed someone to be there, he was willing to help without hesitation. He was a skilled carpenter who took pride in being able to work with his hands and create something useful and meaningful.
He also knew how to enjoy life. He loved music, dancing, fellowship, and having a good time with family and friends. He loved to look sharp when he went out and carried himself with confidence. He was often the life of the party, bringing laughter, energy, and personality wherever he went.
And if you knew him, you certainly knew his favorite word- “WHOOO!” Everyone knew he was in the building because he made sure you knew he was there. That unforgettable voice and spirited personality are memories that his family and friends will carry with them for years to
come.
His life was about more than the things he accomplished. It was about the people he touched, the laughter shared, the help he offered, and the memories he created. His presence brought something special to the lives of those around him, and although his earthly journey has come to an end, the love he gave and the memories he created will continue. He leaves to cherish his memories, one sister, Betty Goodwin-Peppers (Vincent) of St. George, South Carolina; five aunts, Angela (Tony)Williams of St, George, South Carolina; Machelle Simmons of Grover, South Carolina; Chris Ann(Matthew) Henderson of Branchville, South Carolina; Alice (Sonny) Allred of Bowie, Maryland; and Willie Mae(James) Keller of Norwalk, Connecticut; three great-aunts, Stella (Nathaniel) Simmons of Ladson, South Carolina; Mildred Goodwin of Bowman, South Carolina; and Helen Jamison of Knoxville, Tennessee; one great-uncle, John Mack of Orangeburg, South Carolina; three uncles, Clay (Mozell) Goodwin of Bowman, South Carolina; Terry (Deborah) Goodwin of Takoma Park, Maryland; and Roger Goodwin of Fort Washington, Maryland. Those who held a special place in his life are John Britt, Deborah Jones, Kevin Riley, Minister Eva Bryant, Andre Brice, Laverne Ellis and Patricia Lyles (Robert) Young.
He also leaves a host of family and friends all of whom will continue to cherish the memories they shared with him.
Though our hearts are heavy with the passing of James Edward “Rick” Carn, we can find comfort in knowing that his life was filled with people who loved him and memories that will never be forgotten.
His smile, his laughter, his willingness to help, his love for dancing, his sharp style, his outgoing personality, and that unforgettable “WHOOO!" will forever remain a part of the memories of those who knew him.
He may no longer walk among us, but the mark he made on the lives of others, will remain. His earthly journey is complete, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and all who have the privilege of knowing him.
Rest peacefully! Your work here is done. You will be loved, remembered, and missed always.
