James Cobbs born January 27, 1941 to the late Paul Cobbs, Sr. and Wilhelmenia Cobbs departed this life on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 8:21 p.m. at the residence of his son in Washington, DC.

At an early age he joined the Good Hope Baptist Church and served faithful on the usher board and trustee board until his health declined.

James grew up in St. George where he graduated from Williams Memorial in 1959.

James was a harder worker who took pride in caring and providing for his family. After graduation, James worked at Gavin Ford, Inc. Soon after leaving Gavin Ford, Inc., James worked at Carolina Girls for 29 years before the business closed down. James retired from Dorchester County Detention Center as a correctional officer July 31, 2012. He also retired from Dorchester School District Four as a bus driver May 2013. James had a joyous time working at the Detention Center and the school district, "he called them his dream jobs."

After retirement and his failing health, James and his wife, Elizabeth relocated to Washington, DC to live with their son.

James was a proud father. He was very proud of the many accomplishments of his children. Lindsey and Latecia were his pride and joy. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially, his two precious grandchildren.

He was united in Holy matrimony to Elizabeth Jenkins Cobbs for 50 years, and to this union they were blessed with two children.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Elizabeth Cobbs of the home; one son, James Lindsey Cobbs of Washington, DC; one daughter, Latecia Cobbs of Columbia, SC; two grandchildren, Kierra Rich and Carey (C.J.) Rich, Jr. ; his loving mother, Wilhelmenia Cobbs of St. George, SC; two sisters, Mary Cooper Primus and Rose Marie Smoaks both of Columbia, SC; one brother, Paul (Shirley) Cobbs, Jr. of St. George, SC; one nephew, Mitchell (April) Cobbs whom was reared in the home with him; one sister-in-law, Bertha Edwards of St. George, SC; two brothers-in-law, Willie James (Brenda) Jenkins of St. George, SC and Johnny Morris Jenkins of Florence, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
