Jackie Leroy Hankerson, known affectionately as " Mr. Jack " went to dwell in the Kingdom of our Lord on Tuesday , July 2, 2019. Jack is one of seven children. Jack was born September 28, 1950 to the late Earlie & Martha Britt-Hankerson . He grew up in St. George, S. C. where he had long lasting memories of a very happy life.

At an early age Jack became a member of New Hope AME Church where he will be remembered for many things but what will standout to many is how he loved serving the Lord. He was a faithful member up until recently. He served as the Pro-tem of the Steward Board , and a member of the Usher Board and the Pastor Aide Board. He was a graduate of Williams Memorial High School class of 1970.

Jack worked for the SC State Department of Transportation as a supervisor for many years. Upon his retirement , he returned to the state as a custodian for Dorchester School District #4.

Jack leaves behind his children , Tamiko (Adrian) Williams of Crestview Fla., Jarette Hankerson of Harleyville, SC and Jakayla Hankerson of Hinesville, Ga. His sisters, Genevieve Fields, Mary Dell (Pete) Singletary and Betty H. Carn all of St. George , SC , one brother , Earlie Hankerson Jr. of Paterson, NJ; four grandchildren , Tyler , Taylor, Colin and Kyleigh . One brother-in-law , AlJonzo (Pete) Singletary of St . George, SC , one aunt , Mary Britt of St. George, SC , one uncle , William (Fat) Hankerson of Salisbury , Md.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends .

To his family Jack was always loving and fun. He was a hard worker and a responsible person. We know that Jack was a man of faith , who understood what it meant to give things to the Lord. He loved his church. He was a faithful friend to many , and he had a Joyful personality . In his last days he told us " It Is What It Is" . We find comfort knowing that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. " We praise our Father for blessing us all with the friendship and love of Jackie Leroy Hankerson .
