Obituary

Mr. Ivory Sylvester Lary, departed this earthly life on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Hospice Center of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. He was born in Dorchester County on January 12, 1927, and was the third of six children born to the late Thomas and Wilhemenia Young Lary.
Mr. Ivory Lary accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour at an early age and joined St. Daniel United Methodist Church in Dorchester, S. C.
He served faithfully in many capacities, until his health began to fail. He served as a member of the Trustee Board, United Methodist Men, Building Fund Committee and Finance Committee. He was also one of the oldest members to help develop the history of the church. He was always willing to demonstrate his commitment to God and his church family. He was a faithful servant for the Lord.

He was educated in the public schools in Dorchester County. He was united in holy matrimony with Adele Davis and to that union, three children were born. He was employed at the Savannah River Plant for over 30 years. He was a very dedicated member of the Masonic organization for over 60 years. In his spare time he enjoyed farming, spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other children. He also loved watching the Atlanta Braves.

He leaves to cherish precious memories: his four children, Eugene (Evola) Fogle of Summerville, S.C., Wilford (Dorothy) Lary of Dorchester, S.C., Russel (Geraldine) Lary of Jacksonville, AL and Ida (Rev. Rufus) Berry of Harleyville, S.C.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Bryant and Orieda Wright both of Dorchester, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Florence Lary of Ridgeville, S.C. and Ann Lary of Dorchester, S.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and a special friend, Evelyn Ross.
