Ivey Ophelia Adams was born in Dorchester County, South Carolina on March 7, 1933. She was the third of ten children born to the late Isaiah and Albertha (Inabinett) Brown.

After a lengthy illness and brief hospitalization, she claimed victory at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, SC on February 10, 214 at 5:50 p.m.

Ivey began her Christian walk at St. Paul AME Church, under the watchful eyes of her parents. She loved music, and working in the Lord's vineyard.

Ivey graduated from Williams Memorial High School and Claflin College. In 1955 she married Henry Adams. They made their home in Jacksonville, Florida. Ivey became a member of the Apostolic Faith Church of God in Christ, where she was an active and faithful member. She retired from Cooper Academy as a principal/teacher.
When her health failed Ivey was transferred from a health care facility in Jacksonville, Florida to the St. George Health Care Center to be near her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and five sisters.

Left to love and cherish her memory are a devoted sister, Daisy Pearl (Brown) Coats; an adopted brother, Rev. Francis McPherson; an aunt, Mattie S. Brown; five nieces, Stephanie, Rosalind, Cynthia, Toi and Cinnamon; eight nephews, John, Ronald, Kiryenski, Darryl, Ricky, Eric, Dwayne, and Otis; three sisters-in-law, Elease, Lela and Onita; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. And this lady loved campmeeting!
