Henry Edward Jones Sr., affectionately known as "Dickie" or "Junkyard Dog" to many, was born on May 20, 1954, in Walterboro, South Carolina, to the late Levi Jones and Lula Mae Chisolm Jones. On Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, God called Henry home to eternal rest.
Henry grew up in South Carolina and attended public schools, where he discovered his passion for working on cars. His love for mechanics and dedication to hard work defined much of his early life. Later, Henry embarked on a new career at Colleton Regional Hospital. Eventually, he moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where he joined MUSC Kershaw Health Medical Center. He remained a devoted and valued employee there until his retirement.
Henry was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Lee Jones, Levi Jones, and Jimmy Lee Jones; his beloved sister Myrtis Jones; and siblings Jesse Sutter, Mary Robinson, and Lois Germaine.
He leaves behind cherished memories with his special friend, Thomasena Seabrook of Columbia, South Carolina; his sisters Catherine E. Sellars of Brooklyn, New York, Minnie Pearl Birtha (Jason) of Englewood, New Jersey, Lue E. Jones of Teaneck, New Jersey, and Lily Kay Howard of New York; and his brother Joe Ben Jones of Kent, Washington.
Henry is lovingly remembered by his children: Daughters, Andrea McTeer (James) of Walterboro, South Carolina; Diesirie Williams of Columbia, South Carolina; Renodia Allen (Chris) of Georgia; and Orissa of New York; Sons, Henry Edward Jones Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina; Matthew McCann (Merlyn) of New York; and Taurean McGann (Rachel) of New York; Stepchildren, Erik Beddard and Sarina Fox of St. George, South Carolina. Henry was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren, Andrea McTeer's three children, Renodia Allen's three children, Henry Edward Jones Jr.'s one child, Matthew McCann's two children, and Taurean McGann's two children. Henry's legacy is further carried on by a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Among his closest friends, he shared a special bond with Daved Smith, Larry, Sheila, and his best friend Gordon Hampalton.
Henry was known for his big heart and selflessness. He had a way of making everyone feel cared for, always willing to give the shirt off his back to help those in need. His love, kindness, and laughter will be deeply missed, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
