Helen Everlena Moore Berry, transitioned to eternal rest as God's angels escorted her home Friday morning October 18, 2019 at Schulman Schachne Institute for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Brooklyn, NY.

Helen, the daughter of the late Reverend David and Charlotta (Lottie) Moore was born October 27, 1925 in Blounts Creek, North Carolina. She attended Washington High School, and Randall's Island School for nursing in Manhattan, New York. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Roman Berry in October, 1950. To this union were born one son Kerwin Berry, and daughter Edith Berry.

As a child, she attended St. John Freewill Baptist Church, where she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Upon moving to New York City, she faithfully attended the New Way Baptist Church where she served in the choir. She later became an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church where she served as a missionary, served communion, visited the sick and shut-in and received special recognition by Mother Teresa. She later moved to East New York and attended St. Gabriel faithfully until her health failed.

Helen was affectionately called Ma Berry! She always cooked extremely large dinners on Sundays. She opened her doors to feed friends and their families on Moffat St. She visited the sick in the neighborhood, and nursed them back to health after a serious illness. Helen retired from the Visiting Nurses Association in Brownsville, but continued her occupation of always trying to make others better. She was active in exercising and gave lessons in her home to her senior citizen friends who were younger than her, and walked for miles in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, New York. She always had a humble spirit and always aimed to please everyone.

Helen leaves to cherish her legacy one daughter, Edith Berry of Raleigh, NC, three grandsons Lamont Dupree Mabry, Brian Berry of the home, and Vernon Berry of Monroe, NC; two great grandchildren, David Mabry and Talia Mabry; special daughter, Sharon White-Ellis; special nieces Regina Harley, Judy Moore; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
