On the morning of March 24, 2019, the angels of death visited the room of Mother Gracie. He sealed the lips and closed the eyes of our faithful and devoted loved one.

Mother Gracie Mimrah Felder Boyd was born on September 10, 1924 in Dorchester County. She was the daughter of the late Hamp Felder and Alice Bowman Felder. She grew up in the "Phyllis Kitchen" community in the St. George area. She graduated from St. George Rosenwald School in Dorchester County.  She then furthered her education at Allen University and South Carolina State College.

On February 29, 1948, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Elijah "Son" Boyd. They were married for over 50 years before his passing on May 1, 2001. To this union came four children: Lou Ellen, Edwin, Dexter (who preceded her in death) and Patty.

Sister Gracie taught in the schools of St. George, Reevesville, Texas Community, St Paul Community and the Bend Section of Dorchester County for several years. She was a Homemaker for the Dorchester County Department of Social Services in which she retired in 1987 after 18 years of service.

Sister Gracie had five siblings to precede her in death: William Felder, Perlie Simmons Felder, Mary Simmons, Christopher Columbus Felder, and Morine Felder Jones.

Mother Gracie accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and joined Bethel AME Church where she was a lifelong member. She served in the following capacities until her health declined:  Class Leader, President of the Senior Choir, Stewardess Board #3, Pulpit Aide Boards, member of the Laura Mae Johnson Missionary Society,  member of the Building Fund and Family Week committees and she served as the Quarterly Conference Secretary for many years.   She also helped to start the Vesper Choir under the leadership of the late Rev. Herbert Blake and YPDers.

Sister Gracie was the Past Worthy Matron for White Oak Chapter #27 Order of Eastern Star.

Mother Gracie was known for her famous homemade biscuits that she baked almost every day until her health failed. She loved fishing and planting her garden and flowers in the spring.

After an extended illness, on the morning of Sunday, March 24, 2019, God's Angel stopped at 129 Elijah Lane, St George, SC and gave her a ride to be with God. She leaves to cherish her loving memories her children: Lou Ellen and Patty of  the home, Edwin, St. George, SC (Edna R. Boyd, daughter-in-law preceded her in death); three grandchildren,  Edwin Montez, Estill, SC, Travis Sentell (April), St. George, SC, Kimberly (Garrett), Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; five great grandchildren, Aumani, Aumari, Aumya, Garrett Jr., and Elijah James; one sister, Leanna Washington, Brooklyn, New York, one brother, George (Annie) Felder, St. George, SC; one sister-in-law, Eartha Shuler, Orlando, Florida, godchildren, Thomasine Cordner, Glen Washington, Nathaniel Jones and the late Rev. Richard Lee Felder; a number of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews and cousins; special friends, Mr. Virgil Boyd,  Mrs. Mary Britt and family, Ms. Donna Jo Walsh, Ms. Bambi Raston, Mrs. Vivian White, Mrs. Mattie Summers, Mrs. Lillie Mae Shuler, Mrs. Mary Garvin, Ms. Ann Moore, Ms. Iris  Newsome Britt, and Ms. Linda Johnson; special thanks to Loving Hearts Respite Care Staff, Agape Hospice Staff and Josetta Byrd.
