Govondia Zelvenia Berry Rhames was a devoted wife and mother, one who always put the interests of her family first who saw to it that her children were given the best she could provide, in loving care, spiritual nourishment, and material comforts. The memories we have of her will always be dear to our hearts. We express love, concern and sympathy for the children left without a mother and the husband left without a wife. A life lived as Govondia lived, cannot die, but will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.


Govondia was born November 27, 1971 in Charleston, South Carolina, the daughter of Elizabeth Berry and Elijah Delee. On Saturday, June 4, 2011, God called and she answered the call. Swiftly she stepped on the Old Ship of Zion and sailed into eternity.


She was a 1990 Graduate of Harleyville-Ridgeville High School, Dorchester, South Carolina. She was a former member of Greater St. Paul A.M.E. Church. After her marriage to Mr. Eddie L. Rhames, she joined Elem Missionary Baptist Church where she fellowshipped until her health failed.


Govondia or Vondia, as she was lovingly called, was loved by all who knew her. She had numerous jobs until her health failed.


She will be cherished and lovingly missed by her devoted husband, Eddie Rhames of the home; three children, Eddie Lavarn, Jr., Lasir Jasira, and Alexis Serenity all of the home; her mother, Elizabeth Berry of Harleyville, South Carolina; her father, Elijah Delee of Ridgeville, South Carolina; two grandmothers, Edith B. Berry of Harleyville, South Carolina and Annie L. Rhames of Walterboro, South Carolina; her father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Rhames of Harleyville, South Carolina; six sisters, Shanolia Berry, Shantell Summers, Meekia Berry, Violetta (Kaiheen) Mason, Kia (Demona) Caldwell, and Sabrina Delee; one brother, Vashun Berry; two sisters-in-law, Wanda P. Johnson of Dorchester, South Carolina and Cynthia (Kevin) Cobbs of St. George, South Carolina; two grand uncles, Theodore and Orlando Inabinet; two grand aunts, Mrs. Laretta Simmons and Mrs. Lillie Johnson; two special friends, Mrs. Lenerd Mack and Mrs. Millie King; 13 aunts; eight uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
