Obituary

Gloria Thomas Ross, 81, completed her journey on August 28, 2026. She was born to the late Congaree Jenkins and Bertha Lee Mood. Gloria was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and beautiful soul whose love touched everyone blessed to know her.

Gloria was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County and worked in the hospitality industry throughout her adult life.

She was a woman of strength, compassion, and unconditional love. Her greatest joy was her family. She dedicated her life to caring for and supporting who she loved, always making sure her children and family knew they were loved. Her words of wisdom, warm smile, laughter, and comforting presence will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

Gloria had a way of making people feel welcomed and cared for. She never hesitated to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or simply be there when someone needed her. Her love was genuine, her heart was generous, and the memories she created with her family will be cherished for generations to come. Although our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in knowing that her love will never leave us. She will continue to live through the lessons she taught us, the memories we shared, and the love planted in each of our hearts.

In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Ross, Molly and Johnny Thomas, who reared her; her children, Ricky (Debra) Ross and Lena Michelle Simmons; her granddaughters, Kendra L. Thomas and Keshae L. Ross; her great-grandson Grayson Jackson; her siblings, Linda Short, Willie (Pearly) Simmons (Jr. Thomas), Cathy Mood, Carolyn Vinson; Thomas “Bubby” Seabrook, and John “Bubba” Henry Mood.

She leaves to cherish her memories, Gloria Annette (Anthony) Bryant; Rosemary (Bernard) Jackson; Sheila (the late Ulysses, Jr) DeLee; Otis M. Ross; Tony T. Ross; Kantrel L. Ross; and Alfonzo A. Ross; 29 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings: Nancy Hall; Mechico “Nadine” Mood; and Tracy Mood, all of Port Chester, New York; Henriette (Terry) Parker; Asperita “NeNe” Mood, all of North Charleston, South Carolina; Audrey Richardson of Summerville, South Carolina; and Randolph (Sheryl) Mood of Goose Creek, South Carolina.

She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Geneva Smiley and Janie Ross; her brothers-in-law, James (Ethel) Ross and David (Debra) Ross, all of Dorchester, South Carolina; her special friend Riley Moultrie, her nephew and “riding partner,” Isaiah James and close friend Brenda Zeigler. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
