The world became a better place with the birth of Gertrude Britt on May 15, 1941 in (Texas Community) , St. George , Sc. She was the second child born to Princess Marion Calloway Britt and Fletcher Britt, Sr.
Gertrude grew up in a loving Christian home in the community of her birth. At a young age she was baptized in the faith andjoined Bethel Bapti s t Church. She was a 1958 graduate of Williams Memorial High School . After graduation , Gertrude moved to Ma n hattan , NY before returning home for Christmas .
When her parents moved to New York , Gertrude relocated with them and made Brooklyn her home. She joined in fellow s hip with Pilgrim Bapti s t Church under the leader s hip of the late Rev . Harold Burton. Sh e s erved under the nurse S guild and the usher board.
In 1965 she was united in holy matrimony to Theodore Holman. Their union was blessed with two sons , Eric Lamont and Trevor La 'mon .
Gertrude was gainfully employed by several companies beginning with the U S. Pencil Co. , an insurance co. , the Us. Postal Service and finally the Social Security Administration. During her employment she found time to obtain her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Brooklyn College .
In 1989 Gertrude transferred to Richmond, VA where she continued her employment with SSA. She attended St. Paul Baptist Church of Richmond under the leadership of Dr. Lance Watson . Due to an unfortunate accident , she would spend the remainder of her life caring for her son , Eric. Later in life, Gertrude joined New Direction Evangelistic Church of North Chesterfield , VA under the leadership of Bishop Roy L. Foots, where she was part of the seniors' ministry.
Gertrude enjoyed traveling to lands far and near, cooking and gardening . Her favorite mode of travel wa s by airplane. She enjoyed trips to Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and especially watching the U S. Open, and the time spent "down south " visiting family .
Gertrude will be remembered for her unconditional gra c iousness , her exuberant laughter and generous smile, a selfless and patient mother , a loving sister and devoted friend.
With the same quietness and dignity as she lived, Gertrude quietly left this earthly realm on Wednesday, February 27 , 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Fletcher Britt, Jr. , Carl "Cee" Britt, son, Trevor Holman and niece , Tracie Britt.
