Obituary

Frederick "Sonny" Mergogey was born on June 1, 1958 to the late Fred and Claire Dibble Mergogey in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 peacefully at his home in Reevesville, SC after an extended illness.

Frederick attended Catholic School & Garrett High School in Charleston, SC. At a young age, Sonny started working. He worked at Briteline Extrusions in Summerville, SC for 40 years until he had to stop due to a disability.  The best thing that came out of working all those years was meeting the love of his life, Davonna Britt Mergogey.

Sonny enjoyed bowling and was in several leagues in the Summerville, Walterboro, Charleston & Goose Creek areas. He also loved to fish, which he did all of his life with his parents and then one of his best friends, John Anderson. Sonny was a quiet person and chose to be with a select group of friends over the years, but would give help to anyone in the time of need. He spent much time working on lawnmowers at Johnnie's Small engines in Grover with one of his best friends the late Johnnie Shieder.

After Sonny got up enough courage to approach Davonna, they started talking which led to them dating. Davonna & Frederick were joined in Holy Matrimony on November 25, 2000.

Even though Frederick wasn't a very talkative person, he was never short of a smart comment, which never went unnoticed and brought shock & laughter to many. This trait has truly been passed on to both of his daughters.

Frederick was proceeded in death by his parents, brother William "Bill" Wuehrmann of Goose Creek, SC, sister, Deborah Melton, and father-in-law Willie J. Britt.

Frederick is survived by his wife, Davonna, of the home; son, Justin (Andrea) Wolfe of Aiken, SC; daughters, Kadra Mergogey of Ladson, SC and Camyra Mergogey of the home (SCSU). Grandchildren: Amalia, Khalia, and Wyatt Wolfe of Aiken, SC. Siblings: April (Kevin) Fast of Hollywood, SC., Bob (Zijia) Wuehrmann and Richard (Virginia) Wuehrmann, Charkeston, SC, Barbara Erndl.; mother-in-law Gertie Britt of Reevesville, SC, brother-in-law Byron Britt, St. George, Alyise (Jonathan) Johnson, Virginia, best friend John Anderson and several nieces, nephews and friends.
