Obituary

Deacon Francis Shuler was born on October 23, 1940, in Branchville, South Carolina, to the late Francis Delancy and Willie B. Delancy. He peacefully departed this life on July 12, 2026, at 11:43 a.m.

Francis attended the public schools of Dorchester County, South Carolina. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and began a lifelong journey of faithful service to the Lord.

He was first a devoted member of McBranch Baptist Church in Branchville, South Carolina. He later united with St. Matthews Baptist Church, where he faithfully served until his retirement due to illness. During years of dedicated service, he was an active member of numerous ministries and organizations, including the Deacon Ministry, Brotherhood Ministry, Culinary Ministry, DJ Jones Male Chorus, Senior Choir, the Lovely Hill Baptist Congress Christian Education, and Masonic Lodge #37.

Deacon Shuler was employed by J. F. Cleckley Asphalt Company in Orangeburg, South Carolina, owned by the late Harry M. Mims, Sr., where he faithfully worked for more than 40 years before retiring from REA Construction. He was also affectionately known throughout the community as "The Cake Man." He was admired for his exceptional skill in making delicious cakes, generous spirit, and loving heart, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

On June 30, 1963, Francis married the love of his life, Lillie M. Shuler, affectionately known as "Pinky." Together they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage, building a home centered on faith, love, and family.

Their union was blessed with four children. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Francis Shuler.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife, Lillie M. "Pinky" Shuler; three loving children: Harry M. Shuler, Sr. (Tracy) of Columbia, South Carolina; Evelyn D. Williams (John Henry) of Aiken, South Carolina; and Bobby R. Shuler of the home. He also leaves one brother-in-law, Larry Mack (Elaine) of Titusville, Florida.

He was the proud grandfather of Harry M. Shuler, Jr. (Sharmaine), Alexandra, Alanna, and his additional grandchildren. He also leaves four great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Deacon Shuler also shared a special bond with three family members who were especially dear to his heart: Villa Britt of Reevesville, South Carolina; O'Conner Greene of Orlando, Florida; and Harold Green, Jr. of Mims, Florida.

Deacon Francis Shuler will be remembered for his unwavering faith, humble spirit, love for his family, dedicated service to his church, strong work ethic, and generous heart. His life was a beautiful testimony of love, service, and devotion to God and others. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love him.
