On August 26, 2024, surrounded by family, First Lady Lucille Martin transitioned peacefully into her heavenly home.

Sister Lucille, affectionately known as "The Hat Lady", was born on April 20, 1948 in Bamberg County to the late Blease Berry and Deloris Hodges Berry. She was a graduate of Williams Memorial High School in St. George, SC.

At an early age, Sister Lucille accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined the Good Hope Baptist Church. As a dedicated servant of God, she served in various capacities: Usher Board, Sunday School Teacher, Missionary Society, the Nurse's unit, and briefly as
the Advisor of the Sunshine Band.

In 2018, she became First Lady of the Harvey Chapel Baptist Church. She served diligently and loved the church family wholeheartedly!

In 1969, she met the love of her life, Leroy Martin. On May 8, 1970, they were united as one and blessed with three beautiful daughters. Lucille was employed with the Dorchester Tax Assessors Office until she retired in 2004.

Sister Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Blease and Deloris Berry and three brothers, Daniel Cecil, Blease Jr., and Ezekiel Berry.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories: a devoted husband of 54 years, Rev. Leroy Martin; three loving daughters, Anntoinette (Leroy) Haynes, Tesa (Isaac) Wolfe, Felicia (Marlon) Elmore, all of St. George, SC; one son, reared as their own, Da'Kwaun Johnson
of Charleston, SC; seven grandchildren, Ladaijah (Len) Hopkins, Kyra and Tyra Wright, Rashaun Martino, Kwami Wright Jr., Trennis Haynes, and Jaiden Dailey; four great-grandchildren, Tabari, Lenaii, Lailah, and Nalani; one brother, Paul (Mazella) Berry; two sisters, Maude (Burnell) Cobbs and Mary (Roger) Davis, all of St. George, SC; two additional brothers-in-law, James Martin and Carroll Johnson of Cottageville, SC; a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and last but not least, her precious Furbaby, Tiny T. Martin.

Lucille was one of a kind with a Heart of Gold; she touched the lives of many and will be sorely missed.
