Mr. Ernest "Ernie" Britt, son of the late Susie and Louis Britt was born on March 3, 1934 in St. George, South Carolina and passed away peacefully in his home on July 29, 2022.

Ernest's life was full of accomplishments, all based on dreams he had for himself and his family. In 1952, he moved from farming in the south to working in the big city, New York City. His first job was making ladies handbags. He did that for 9 months then went to work as a janitor at a movie theater for a year. In 1953 he started working in construction doing hard labor work. He worked at Karson and Reed Construction for 2 ½ years, here is where he learned to weld. He then moved on to work at Chaite Auto Metal as a full-time welder for 13 years. In 1963, he started driving a taxicab part time but actually loved doing this so much that it became his full time job. Ernest was able to purchase his own taxicab Medallion for over $100,000, which is a very big deal in the Taxi world. Years later he moved on to become a self-employed luxury limousine driver until he retired in 1999.

Ernest was a natural handyman and turned his talent into a side business. He used his welding experience to start his own side business.  All over Queens, New York you could see Ernest's handy work on front and back door security gates, fences, tables, and mailboxes. His work could be seen all around his own home as well in Jamaica, Queens where he and his wife Geraldine lived for over 40 years.

After retirement, Ernest moved to Orangeburg, South Carolina to be close to where he was born in St. George. He was an active member at St. Mark Baptist Church and would attend as often as he could.  In Orangeburg, Ernest started another business in landscaping and continued to offer his welding services to the community.

Your encouraging words of wisdom and advice, your creative vision, you laughing at your own jokes, your culinary skills, your smile, but most of all, your hugs and love for your family will always serve as a tribute to you, DADDY! Heaven has just added another set of wings. We miss you already!

Preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Britt, his Brothers Charles Henry Britt , Louis (Sonny) Britt and his sisters Mary Henderson, Jessie Mae Young, Berta Britt, Emma Lee Dixon, Vernese Primus, and Corine Britt Brown.

Ernest was a devoted husband and excellent father.  He was known for his world-famous and delicious turkey lasagna which he received many requests from many to make. Ernest is survived and forever cherished by his children, Colette Barrow and her husband, Clinton Barrow, Yvonne Britt, Nakia Johnson and her husband, Wendell Johnson. He had two bonus daughters, Veronica Pritchett, and Ladawn Ward. His grandchildren, Chandler Barrow, Christina Barrow, Nicholas Johnson and Morgan Johnson as well as his dear special friend Ms. Martha Jones. His sisters Lether Thomas, Francis Folds (Max), Susie Queen Britt (Rev General), Nellie Rose Primus and his brothers Paul Britt and Bennie Britt (Rose) and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
