Emma Lee Gilbert Britt, age 80, of St. George, South Carolina, peacefully entered eternal rest on April 25, 2025. Born to the late Wilson Gilbert and Mary Alice Gilbert, Emma's life was a testament to love, strength, service, and faith.

Emma attended Williams Memorial School and, in 1962, moved to New York in pursuit of new opportunities. She worked for several years at a telephone company and later at a company called Sales, where she helped craft pocketbooks. During the times she was not working outside the home, Emma was a dedicated stay-at-home mother, always present for her children and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need—family, friend, or neighbor.

In 1987, Emma married the love of her life, the late Marvin Britt. Together, they built a beautiful, blended family filled with love, laughter, and strong values.

Emma was a devoted mother to three children: Sherwin Heyward, Marvin Marquin (Rowena) Britt, and Olivia "Libby" Britt. She also lovingly embraced two bonus children: Rondell (Melissa) Hodges and Brittni Miller.

She was the proud grandmother of three grandchildren: Shadell Summers, Keyonta "Keke" Britt, and Kayven Brown; four bonus grandchildren: Sharmayne Summers, Shamara Summers, Aeriyona Summers, and Khaliah Belton; and four great-grandchildren: Cymphany Rainey, Christian Rainey, Isaiah Branham, and King Hayes.

Emma shared a special bond with her niece, Valencia Gilbert, and leaves behind a host of other beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her three sisters: Vivian (Willie) Rice, Pearlie Boyd, and Deloris (Virgil) Evans; and her sister-in-law, Juanita (Jimmy) Adams.

She was lovingly cared for in her later years by Felicia Smiley, whose compassion and support were a great blessing. Emma also treasured the joyful friendship of her "ice cream bestie," Skylar Acosta, who brought warmth and laughter into her life.

A woman of unwavering faith, Emma was a lifelong member of Harvey Chapel Baptist Church. She joined as a child and remained a faithful servant throughout her life. In her later years, she was honored to be named Mother of the Church, a title that reflected her spiritual wisdom, strength, and devotion to the congregation she loved so dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Britt; her granddaughter, Shawana Britt; her sister, Mary Banks; and four brothers-in-law: Robert Britt, Vern Boyd, Jackie Evans, and Arthur Banks.

Emma's work ethic remained strong throughout her life. From the 1990s through the early 2000s, she worked at a local hunting lodge, and from 2006 to 2008, she served as a cafeteria worker at Woodland High School, where her warm smile and nurturing presence were appreciated by students and staff alike.

Emma loved talking on the phone, spending time with her sisters, enjoying sweet treats with friends, and visiting anyone in need. Her life was filled with purpose, compassion, and generosity. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the joy and honor of knowing her.
