Elvenia Gary Boyd was born April 1, 1943 in Florence County, South Carolina.  She was the daughter of the late Thaddeus and Rovena Gary.  Elvenia entered into eternal rest early Tuesday morning, March 13, 2018 at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Elvenia was educated in the Florence County School System.

Elvenia was one of thirteen children.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Louis Gary and Curtis Cooper.

Elvenia moved to New York at an early age where she met the love of her life, Louis Boyd.  After a very short courtship Louis and Elvenia entered into holy matrimony June 1963.  With this union came three children: Deborah, Tanya, and Lamont.

Elvenia moved back to South Carolina in 1971 to Saint George to make this her new home with Louis to raise their family.  Elvenia joined Bethel AME Church where she served faithfully. She was known for her singing ability throughout the church. In later years she joined Brown's Chapel FBH Church where she also served faithfully. During her time at Brown's Chapel she served on the missionary board, bible study teacher, Sunday school teacher, choir member and kitchen committee.  Elvenia accepted her call to the ministry and in 1991 she was ordained.  She was sent to Pastor Jerusalem Temple FBH Church.  In later years she returned to Brown's Chapel.  During a transitional phase she joined Cathedral of Hope Ministries in Reevesville, SC with Bishop David Baxter serving as her pastor.  At Cathedral of Hope, she served in many capacities; she was the 'CHURCH MOTHER'.  Mother Boyd served as a true mother of Zion with great spiritual and inspiration guidance.

Elvenia leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Deborah Boyd-Canadys aka Debbie and Tanya Aileen Boyd; son, Louis Lamont Boyd, Jr.; three brothers, John Wallace (Jeanette) Gary, Grady Cooper, and Bennie Cooper;  seven sisters, Deloris Parks, Lecey Gunthrope, Geneva Anderson, Flora (Carton) Powell, Janis Cooper, Gloria (Frank David) McFadden, and Shirley Cooper; one brother-in-law, Joseph (Tammy) Boyd;  extended family (children and grand children): Bishop Arthur and Elois Cobbs (LaShone, Romont, Trumaine and Makilayh), Danita (Lyn) Summers (Kyah, Eligah, Kalongi, Mason), Whatinia (Keith) Mack (Jeylen and Tenia), and Queen Ester White (Zephaniah and Taylor); one god-daughter, Chanel Martin;  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
