Eloise
Britt
Mar 15, 1934 — Jan 16, 2022
Brooklyn
Eloise Britt was born on March 15, 1934, in Bamberg, SC to the late Julius Haynes and Carrie Franklin-Haynes. She was the seventh of nine children. Beautifully gifted at blending the resources of evangelism
and education, Eloise (AKA Weezer) accepted the Lord at an early age as her personal savior and was baptized at Free Gift Baptist Church and attended school in Bamberg, SC.
Eloise later moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1946 to live with three of her siblings after the death of her mom. In the mid 70's, Eloise joined First Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY where she served as an usher.
Eloise met the love of her life, Raymond Britt, and was later united in Holy Matrimony in 1958. Their union was blessed with two children: Wendy E. Britt and Jonathan (Pike) Britt.
Like a determined breeze on the lake, Eloise was diligent and held many positions working at the Nursing Home and retired after 25 years with NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
Despite the influences of the changing world, Eloise was the matriarch and a humanitarian who had a zest for life. Eloise was the go-to Aunt, outgoing, loved cooking and baking for her family and friends, she loved walking around the track field daily. Many respected and knew her within the neighborhood. Eloise was a mother figure to many, a bit feisty, (one would say) but everyone loved her and called her "MA". Eloise knew how to have a good time. She always had kind words to say. Born into a world tuned to the sound of the gospel, you would always find Eloise reading the Bible.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, daughter Wendy, stepson Ronald (Ron) Britt; brothers: Joseph and Foster Haynes; sisters Odell Brinson, Rita Bazemore, Rose Kearse, Mary Smith, and Hannah Haynes.
Her triumphant departure from us shall be memorialized for generations to come under the charge of her son Jonathan, daughter-in law Belinda Britt, five grandson Jermaine (Jerry) Britt, Matthew Carroll (Yasmine), Vaughn, Shaun Parker and Elijah James, a great grandson Deniro Carroll, three great-granddaughters: Percias, Maddsion and Taylor Carroll all of Brooklyn, NY, one sister Ruthie Strickland, brother-in-law, Jessie Strickland of New Orleans, LA, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
