On the morning of April 3, 2015, the angels of death visited Trident Hospital, sealed the lips and closed the eyes of our faithful and devoted loved one.

Ella Mae Brothers "Mama", as she was affectionately called, was born on March 26, 1929 in Dorchester County. She was the daughter of the late Carey and Luthisia Winningham Summers, who preceded her in death, along with three sisters and two brothers. At an early age, she later joined New Hope AME Church. She attended public schools of Dorchester County. She was employed at the Harleyville Daycare Center. She was joined in Holy Matrimony with Maldo Brothers (1946), from this union eight children were born, two preceded her in death, Maldo Brothers Jr. and Patricia Brothers Seabrook, along with three great-grandchildren.

She served on the Missionary Board, Stewardess Board, Usher Board and Pastor's Aid Board, at New Hope AME Church. She and her husband, Maldo, always kept the church's cemetery clean until their health failed them. She was also named the mother of the church. She enjoyed singing, dancing, entertaining, and spending time with her many family and friends. Those who knew her loved her unconditionally; she was a pleasant person to be around. Her comedic personality was contagious and touched the hearts of whomever had the pleasure of meeting her. In addition to her ability to make others laugh, she was known for her famous pies and cakes; everyone's favorite, her coconut pies.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories; six children, James C. (Emma) Brothers of Harleyville, SC, Aaron (Evelyn) Brothers of Charleston, SC, Dianne (Johnnie) Smith of Daytona Beach, FL, Harry Brothers of Dorchester, SC, Larry Brothers of Conyers, GA and Gloria (James) Ferguson of Moncks Corner, SC, and one adopted daughter, Carolyn (Calvin) Elmore, of Summerville, SC; one loving brother, Thomas Summers of Summerville, SC; two sister-in-laws, Cedell W. (Louis) Calloway and Berneatha Britt. One granddaughter reared in the home, Veronica Brothers; a devoted niece, Blondell Jamison; and special thanks to her Caregiver, Tanzy Milligan; twenty grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and nine great, great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
