Obituary

Sister Elizabeth B. Black was born in St. George, SC to the late Boyden and Lillian Jennings Brothers on July 4, 1931.

She attended the public schools of Dorchester County and Graduated from Jenkins Hill High School Class of 1970. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Minister Sumter Black on February 26, 1949 and this union was blessed with four children. One daughter, Lizel Haynes and one son, Sumter Black, Jr. preceded her in death.

She was employed at the Coastal Center for a number of years.

She joined Morris Chapel United Methodist Church at a young age and served the Lord to the fullest. She loved the Lord, her family and friends.  She was very active in the church and community. She held the following offices:  President of the UMW, Communion Steward, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Senior Choir, Membership Secretary, Chairperson of the Administrative Board and a Leader. She also was willing to work with any organization that needed her help. In the community she was there for you and she stayed in touch with the elderly by calling every morning. For exercise she would rake her yard and walk in the mall with her daughter.

Her memories will always be cherished and treasured by her loving and devoted daughter, Sister Annie Washington (Rev. Jimmy); her loving and devoted son, Russell Black (Verna) both of Dorchester, SC; ten grandchildren; one great granddaughter; one granddaughter preceded her in death; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends all of whom loved her and will miss her dearly.
