Mother Edith L. Jennings McCormick, affectionately known as "Sister," was called to be with the Lord on Friday evening, May 1, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Silas and Lula Jennings. She was born on January 24, 1924. She attended the public schools in Dorchester County.

At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and joined New Hope AME Church.

Edith was married to the late Laruth Toomer. During this union, no children were born.

Edith moved to New York and joined Majority Baptist Church where she was an active member and worked faithfully. She was an active member of the Eastern Stars in New York.

Later in life she met and married the late Henry McCormick. To this union, one son was born—Michael McCormick.

She worked on her job in New York for many years and retired. In 1990, she relocated to South Carolina and reinstated her membership to New Hope AME Church. She remained a faithful member until her health failed. She served as a steward, a missionary and a member of the Senior Choir. She was also the Mother of the church and a devoted servant for the Lord. She loved Sunday School and
attended regularly.

She was preceded in death by four brothers—Reverend Daniel (Lollie Q) Jennings, Stephen Jennings, Henry (Allie) Jennings and James Jennings.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories: a loving and devoted son, Michael McCormick of St. George, SC; one step-daughter, Alice Perkins of Rosedale, New York; one sister, Mrs. Birdie Mae Britt of St. George, SC; one brother, Walter (Fannie) Jennings of Summerville, SC; one sister-in-law, Alma Jennings of St. George, SC and a host of nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.
