In 1979, the Lord blessed Sallie (Ronnie) Johnson of Dorchester, SC and Willie (Belinda) Grant of Columbia, SC with a beautiful baby boy. DeWayne C. Smith was born August 4 in Bamberg, SC. He was called home on Friday, March 2, 2012.
At an early age, he joined St. Paul AME Church. DeWayne was also known as "Bates". He at-tended Jenkins Hill Elementary School and graduated from St. George High in 1997. While in high school he was employed at Western Sizzlin. After high school, he was employed by Upchurch Lumber Company in St. George, SC. In 2004, he began working at J. Baucom Construction in Summerville, SC.
DeWayne enjoyed watching his son play football and being with his family and friends. He would always greet you with a smile and kiss. His favorite words were "I LOVE YOU". He touched so many lives with his gentle affection.
He leaves to cherish sweet loving memories, his mother, Sallie (Ronnie) Johnson; his father, Willie (Belinda) Grant; a loving finance Tennille Bolden; a son, Daquan Bolden; two daughters, Imani Bolden and Chinty Smith all of St. George, SC; his unborn child, his grandmother, Neomia Smith of Dorchester, SC; a very special aunt Caroline Brown of Walterboro, SC; two brothers, Rondre Johnson of Dorchester, SC and step brother Brandon Grant of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Bananka McKoy, TeAsha McKoy both of Dorhester, SC; two step-sisters, Kendra Ross and Anita Johnson both of Columbia, SC; twelve uncles, Albert Mack, Virgil Smith, Allen Smith, Pete davis and Lozenzo Davis all of Dorchester, SC, Bruce (Queen) Smith of WWalterboro, SC, Tolman (Dorine) Chapman of Ridgeville, SC, Alonzo Chapman of Summerville, SC, Steve Johnson, Stevie Senior, Thomas Johnson, Booker T. Johnson and McKoy Johnson all of Bowman, SC; nine aunts, Mary McKoy, Donnie (Walter)Davis of both of Harleyville, SC, Bessie Pearl, Doresa Littles, Lora (Alvin) Govan all of St. George, SC, Margie (John) Bradley of Bowman, SC, Joyce (Michael) Gamble of Summerville, SC, Clara Johnson of Bowman, SC and Roberta Davis of Dor-chester, SC and a host of relatives, cousins and friends.
