In 1979, the Lord blessed Sallie (Ronnie) Johnson of Dorchester, SC and Willie (Belinda) Grant of Columbia, SC with a beautiful baby boy. DeWayne C. Smith was born August 4 in Bamberg, SC. He was called home on Friday, March 2, 2012.
At an early age, he joined St. Paul AME Church. DeWayne was also known as "Bates". He at-tended Jenkins Hill Elementary School and graduated from St. George High in 1997. While in high school he was employed at Western Sizzlin. After high school, he was employed by Upchurch Lumber Company in St. George, SC. In 2004, he began working at J. Baucom Construction in Summerville, SC.
DeWayne enjoyed watching his son play football and being with his family and friends. He would always greet you with a smile and kiss. His favorite words were "I LOVE YOU". He touched so many lives with his gentle affection.
