Deshaun Utsey,
Jr.
Mar 28, 2019 — Dec 27, 2025
Saint George
DeShaun Justice Utsey, Jr. was born to the late Shakeema Mircle Simmons and DeShaun Utsey, Sr. on March 28, 2029. Oh, what joy he brought into their lives. His mom would often say, "I can't image life without you. These two months you have been amazing. You are growing so fast and I love you."
DeShaun was very smart, happy and so full of life. He loved his family immensely.
He was in first grade at Williams Memorial Elementary School in St. George, South Carolina. He was eager and excited to go to school where he adored his teacher, Mrs. Montjoy. His favorite subject was Math. His teacher would often say, "He is a math genius." He would solve any math problem without hesitation. DeShaun loved doing math out loud and would often test his grandma. He loved going to Mrs. Della and Mrs. Daisy at Operadella Green-Cobbs Child Care in St. George, SC, where he attended the afterschool and summer camp.
DeShaun's favorite foods were pasta, pizza, Wendy's chicken nuggets and chocolate frosty. His smile would light up the room. Although he lived a short life of six years, he left a lifetime of memoires and will be greatly missed and he is now united again with his mom.
DeShaun was preceded in death by his mom, Shakeema Simmons and his grandmother, Gwendolyn Cusack.
DeShaun leaves to cherish his memories: his dad, DeShaun Utsey, Sr.; grandparents, a loving, caring and devoted caregiver Grandma Nera Sellers, Kareem Simmons and Ale (Victoria) Brown; great grandparents, Romona (Anthony) Brightman, Pearl (the late Remus) Simmons, and Mary Julie Brown (92 years old); aunts, Kareema Simmons, Tiwanica Cusack, Eboni Cusack (Nathaniel Simmons), Kimel Cusack and Nashelle Cusack; uncles, Karon Washington, Jermaine Cusack and Breyron Cusack; one brother, Amaris Kae'Shaun Utsey; special and devoted little cousins, Javion and Jasmine Rouse; his Papa, Tony Ross; his barber, Dwayne Brooks of Harleyville, SC; best friend, Caycien Paige; a host of grand aunts, grand uncles, cousins, other relatives, friends and classmates.
