Demetrius Decoy Sims (Meat), son of the late Naomi Alice and Elijah Sims, was born on September 1, 1953, in Dorchester County. He departed this life on March 4, 2009, after an extended illness.

Demetrius attended the public schools of Dorchester County. He graduated from Jenkins Hill High School in 1972. He also attended Denmark Technical College and earned a degree. He was employed with Red and White Grocery Store for 21 years.

At an early age, Demetrius received Christ in his life as his personal savior and became a member of St. Paul AME Church, Harleyville, SC. He served the church faithfully as an usher and sang on the choir. He later joined Jerusalem U.M. Church where he served on the Trustee Board and the Men's Organization.

On February 17, 1996, Demetrius was united in holy matrimony to Linda Owens. This union was blessed with one daughter – Demetria.

Demetrius leaves to cherish many beautiful memories: his wife, Linda Sims of Harleyville, SC; his daughter, Demetria Sims, Harleyville, SC; one sister, Willie Mae (John) Utsey of Grover, SC; one brother, Frank (Brenda) Mack of Harleyville, SC; three step-children, Denise Hodges of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, Georgette (Timothy) Oakley of Killeen, Texas and George Lawton, Jr. of Harleyville, SC; two sisters-in-law, Bertha L (James) Amaker and Idella Hankerson of Harleyville, SC; three brothers-in-law, Roger (Juanita) Owens of Dorchester, SC, Herbert (Christine) Owens of Harleyville, SC and Eddie (Annette) Owens of Grover, SC; one aunt, Ella Dell Simmons of Harleyville, SC; one grand aunt, Alma Simmons of Harleyville, SC; two special nieces, Lisa Lawrence and Nikki Utsey; one special friend, Arthur (Loretha) Gardner; five grandchildren, Kevin Hodges, Jr., Calvin T. Warren, Dionye' Warren, Denee' Hodges, and Shawnm'nique Carroll; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
