Demetrius Lewis

His Beginning

Demetrius Darell “Meatball” Lewis was born on Saturday, February 5, 1977, in Charleston, South Carolina, to the late Darrell Edfus Lewis and Minister Eva Bryant. He was the first of four children and grew up alongside his siblings, Shedrick, LaQuinta (Von), and Charmaine.

His Life’s Journey

From the beginning, Demetrius was one of a kind. He had a big personality, an even bigger heart, and a smile that could light up a room. Those who knew him knew there was rarely a dull moment when he was around. From an early age, Demetrius was raised in the church alongside his parents and siblings, attending Bethel #1 Holiness Church in Reevesville, South Carolina. He graduated from St.George High School in 1995. Following graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy, where he served honorably until his discharge. After completing his military service, Demetrius chose to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a career in trucking. In 1996, he completed truck driving school in Lugoff, South Carolina, beginning what would become a lifelong career on the road. Over the years, he traveled countless miles across the country, successfully delivering hundreds of loads and building a career that reflected his dedication, determination, and hardworking spirit. One of the proudest moments of his career came when he, his mother, and his siblings joined together to establish 4 Cracker Jack Logistics, Inc., a trucking company founded in honor of their father. More than a business venture, it represented family, legacy, and the continuation of the path their father had paved before them. For Meatball, trucking was more than a profession—it was a family tradition and a legacy he was proud to carry forward until his untimely passing.

The Love of Family

Family held a special place in Meatball’s heart, and there was no greater joy in his life than his baby girl, Demiyah. She was truly his pride and joy, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for her. His love for her was unconditional, and being her father was one of the roles he cherished most. He shared a special bond with his siblings—one filled with love, laughter, countless memories, plenty of teasing, and the kind of closeness that can only come from growing up together. Through every season of life, that sibling bond remained an important part of who he was. As his mother’s firstborn, Meatball held a special place in her heart as well. He was more than her son; he was her dinner partner, her chauffeur, and her companion. Whether they were sharing a meal, running errands, arguing, or simply spending time together, their relationship was filled with the everyday moments that have now become some of the most treasured memories.

His Faith & His Legacy

Demetrius loved God and shared a personal relationship with Him. Although he was not a member of any particular church, his faith remained an important part of his life. He regularly attended different churches, seeking opportunities to worship, hear God’s Word, and strengthen his relationship with Him. His faith was personal, genuine, and uniquely his own. Demetrius leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, generosity, hard work, and devotion to family. His life reminds us that a legacy is not measured only by accomplishments or years lived, but also by the lives touched, the love given, and the memories left behind. His big smile, giving heart, unmistakable personality, and the laughter he brought into the lives of others will not be forgotten.

Those Who Welcomed Him Home

Demetrius was preceded in death by his father, Darrell E. Lewis; his sister-in-law, Denise R. Lewis; his paternal grandparents, Freddie and Rosa Mae Lewis; and his maternal grandparents, Isadore and Beaulah Mae Bryant.
