Columbus Breadmon, known to many as "Cooler" or "Bubby," peacefully fell asleep in death on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Trident Medical Center, Charleston, SC. Bubby was the oldest of seven children born to the late Deacon Julious and Josephine Rhett Breadmon. He was born on March 26, 1940, in Dorchester County.

During his youth, Bubby became a member of Harvey Chapel Baptist Church, St. George, SC. During his early years as a member, he served the church as a youth Sunday School teacher. Bubby attended Oakvilla School and later Williams Memorial High School. In 1961, he moved to Brooklyn, New York and resided there for many years. This move provided him with the opportunity to be employed by various construction companies and to learn the trade of painting.

While living in New York, Bubby met and married the love of his life—the late Janie Belle Allen Breadmon. This union was blessed with one beautiful daughter, Adriene.

In the mid 1980's, Bubby moved back home to South Carolina. Prior to his declining health and moving to Nursing Home Care, he could be seen sitting on the porch of his home or in the yard, and visiting with his close friends and neighbors—Dan Stevens and the late Lawrence Britt, Sr. Bubby was a mild mannered and humble man with a lot of wisdom. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

He leaves to cherish fond memories: a loving and devoted daughter, Adriene Calandra B. (Wesley) Knight, Laurelton, New York; a loving step-son, Clarence (Terrye) Allen, Aiken, SC; three grandchildren, Camille and Christine Knight, Laurelton, NY and Adam Allen, Aiken, SC; four sisters, Janie Florine King, Detroit, MI, Ethel Brooks, Gracia O. (Arthur) Brown, and Elixzina B. (Charles) Goodwin all of St. George, SC; two brothers, Jerbie (Vinzere) Breadmon, Bowman, SC and Alvin M. Breadmon, Detroit, MI; three aunts, Louise (Raymond) Bristol, Baltimore, MD, Janie Williams, Detroit, MI, and Marie Britt, Sumter, SC; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy A. Summers and Rosa (Danny) Profit, Brooklyn, NY and Mary Lee Allen, Santee, SC; two brothers-in-law, Adam (Fella Mae) Allen, Columbia, SC and Wilson Zimmerman, Elloree, SC; two special friends, Dan (Caroline) Stevens and Johnnie L. Sims; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
