Obituary

Mr. Cloy (Laurie) Elmore, the son of the late Harrison Elmore and the late Annabelle Bowman Elmore was born on July 30, 1938. Death Angel summoned him home on August 15, 2008, at 8:50 p.m. at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, New York City.

At an early age, he became a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. He was educated in the Dorchester County Public Schools.

Laurie was a person who loved life, laughter and family. He was a hard working man. You have not had southern cooking until you have had his fried cabbage and okra. To know him was an honor. He never turned down anyone in need of a favor. He had a great sense of humor, but no one made him smile more than his family. He was a "real man" in every sense of the word. He cared for his family without complaint.

He worked as a truck driver for 41 years until he retired in 2003.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgiana Johnson Elmore.

Laurie leaves to cherish loving memories, a devoted and dedicated companion, Myra Hollinshead; two sons, Edward (Florethat) Lemon of Waldorf, MD, and Clao (Shelia) Wallace of Brooklyn, New York; two brothers, Enoch Elmore of Beauford, GA and Leroy Elmore of St. George, SC; four sisters, Janie Mae (Willis) Ansley, Barbara (Herman) White both of St. George, SC, Margaret Thomas and Carrie Butler both of Brooklyn, New York; his sisters-in law, Frizell Elmore of St. George, SC and Gloria Brown of Hampton, VA, his brother-in-law, George Johnson of Bronx, New York; 10 grandchildren, Edward, Anthony, Marcus, Shawn, Latisha, Dagan, Elijah, Jessica, Stephan, and Cierra; two step-daughters, Carmen Johnson and Denise (Melvin) Thomas; two great-grand daughters; the children of his companion, Lyvetta Haynes, Beatrice Johnson, Maxton Johnson and Samantha Johnson, his companions 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
