Clifton Johnnie Footman was born on October 16, 1931 in Harleyville, South Carolina.  He was the first of six children born to the late Johnnie Washington Footman and the late Henrietta Addison Footman.  His sisters, Perstell (Stella) Lloyd, Ludene Footman, and Flora Bell Footman Weldon all preceded him in death.  His brothers, Leroy Footman and Joe Davis Footman also preceded him in death.

Clifton Footman was educated in the Dorchester County School system.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 through 1955 and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Corporal in January 1961. During his lifetime, he also received a certificate from the Keith Bible Institute and was also certified as an Auto Mechanic.  He also worked for the United States Postal Service at the Midtown Manhattan, New York branch and then retired after over 30 years of service.

After moving from South Carolina to New York, he joined the House of God Church, Band #1 Brooklyn, New York.  He received his baptism of the Holy Ghost in 1962 during a revival conducted by Bishop E.V. Ervin at Band # 1 Brooklyn, New York.  As a member, he was on the Pastor's Aide Committee, the Trustee Board, a member of the Senior Choir, Keith Gospel Singers, and attended the Keith Bible Institute.

He was joined in holy matrimony on October 19, 1957 to the gorgeous Rosa Mae Dacus.  To this union, one daughter, Stefanie Footman was born.  He was a loving husband who loved his wife and made sure he provided for his family.  One of his proudest moments also included the marriage of his only daughter Stefanie to Eugene Davis on July 4, 1992.  Following their marriage two years later, he was blessed with one granddaughter, Brittany Rose Davis.  He was a loving and doting father and grandfather.  Rosa, Stefanie and Brittany were the apple of his eye.

He enjoyed watching baseball on TV, and his favorite team was the New York Mets.  He also enjoyed watching Judge Joe Brown and reading the newspaper.  However, his favorite show was Family Feud with Steve Harvey.  He loved attending the State Assemblies and General Assemblies.  He enjoyed giving candy to the local church children, and was known as "The Mint Candy Man".  Most of all, he loved to look through car brochures and ALWAYS kept a nice car.

In 1993, he moved back to South Carolina with his wife to reside in St. George, South Carolina.  He then joined The House of God Harleyville in Harleyville, South Carolina.  He was also a Pastor's Aide member and he remained a faithful member until his death.

Clifton leaves to cherish fond memories; his wife, Rosa Mae, one daughter Stefanie (Eugene), and one granddaughter, Brittany Rose Davis.  He also leaves four sister-in-laws, Helen Footman of Harleyville, SC, Dorell (Cleve) Ferguson of St. George, SC, Lynn Dacus of Wilmington, DE, Kersey Hamilton of Palestine, TX, a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and a host of other family and friends.  Lastly, he leaves one Goddaughter, Jackie, a special nephew Benjamin "Bee" Footman, a special niece/sister Vera Boyd, and an adopted granddaughter, Tatyana "T.T." Davis.
