Clary (Moody) Miner was born on December 25, 1935 in St. George South Carolina to the late Hubert and Ada Dereff. She had a brother named Harris Dereff who died at an early age to an illness. She came from a large family of aunts and uncles of 12 children and many cousins. Her parents took in Linda (Sugar) Anderson and Eddie Sue (Bubba) Hankins. She attended the Williams Memorial School system. She graduated approximately 1954. She helped her parents work in the fields and picking cotton. She worked as a cook and a waitress in Lowder Restaurant. She shared how the customers enjoyed her country cooking and would ask for seconds. She was a nanny for Ms. Chittys son. Clary loved the Lord and her church St. Luke Methodist Church. She gave her life to the Lord at an early age and would attend services with her parents. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She loved to pray and read her Bible and teach Sunday School.

Clary befriended Corrine (Feeny) Grit-Kerlow while in pursing their education for nursing and remained friends or years. She was also very close to Anne Lemon-Dozier. They traveled to New Jersey and New York to find jobs and housing. They formed a club with other women called the St. Lukes Methodist and had many dances to provide funds to the church for years. Shortly after moving, her mother Ada sustained a heart attack and Clary returned to bury her mother. Later, she met Ervin Miner Sr through Anne and Artie Dozier and celebrated their matrimony on August 25, 1962 and was married for 62 years. Out of this union they had 3 children: Jacqueline (Jackie), Ervin Jr. Kenneth. Her father Hubert was a good provider until his sight declined. His siblings cared for him. He remarried to Dorothy (Dot) and they lived their lives peacefully thereafter. Clary returned home to New York. She loved to dressed and wear her heels. She looked like a fashion model.

She worked in the restaurant and auto industry in the 60-70s in Brooklyn, New York. She loved to sew and cook and was known for her delicious cuisine. She made her children outfits and many were impressed with her gifted hands and was sought out to make clothing for others. She landed a job in factories and made pajamas and other clothing. She was a member of the St. Luke's Club with her friends Ollia Anderson, Anne, Inez and her cousin Willie Mae would have benefit dances to help with their church St. Luke. They sent money to their church. She transitioned to another church Bereans Baptist where the family would attend church. Later, she became a member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church and serve on the board and taught Sunday School, was a lecturer and would assist the pastors with Holy Communion and sang on the choir. She went to a nursing school and became an LPN and worked in hospitals. She went for further education and training as a dental assistant and worked with Dr. Rubin in Manhattan for several years before retiring. She enjoyed her 2 grandchildren Elijah and Tyrell and loved them immensely.

On October 29, she sustained a stroke while at home and being care for by her husband Ervin. She was rushed to the hospital and her medical condition declined and went home to be with the Lord on November 11 @ 2:00 am.

She is survived by her husband and 3 children and 2 grandsons, 4 Sister-in-laws Susie Smith, Louvenia Dash, Buelah Miner, Rita Miner, 2 Brother-in-laws Calvin and Edwin Miner, a Son-in-law Ted Harris and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

Mom you will always be a beacon in our lives and many others. You were gracious to others and your legacy and spirit with be inside of us forever. Love you Pookie.
