On the 16th of June in the year 2023, a momentous occurrence took place that forever changed the course of your existence. Your unwavering dedication to your family and selfless service to others did not go unnoticed by a higher power. Despite facing numerous obstacles and challenges, you were recognized by God for your faithful service and called upon to join Him, thereby freeing you from the burdens of earthly life. Though your loved ones may experience grief and physical discomfort, they will find solace and support in one another, strengthening familial bonds and finding comfort in the memories and love you shared.

Ms. Christenia Hodges, a native of St. George, South Carolina, was born on March 29, 1950, in Summerville, South Carolina, to her parents, the late Louise Collier Hodges and Maye Hodges. Regrettably, she passed away on June 16, 2023, following a brief illness at Trident Medical Center. Her life was marked by a strong sense of purpose and unbridled passion, and those who were fortunate enough to know her and cherish her company feel an immense sense of grief and sorrow at her loss.

Christenia was a highly regarded member of St. John United Methodist Church in Dorchester, SC, having been an active participant since her youth. Throughout her time at the church, she undertook various roles, including serving as the church sexton, president of the Usher Board, and member of the Tri-County Ushers. Her dedication to her faith was unwavering, and she always went above and beyond to assist anyone in need.

Christenia was fortunate to have received an outstanding education from Dorchester County Public School, which equipped her with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in her future endeavors. Known for her compassionate and generous nature, she was highly regarded by members of the community, who often sought her assistance in times of need. Her willingness to lend a helping hand was a testament to her kind-hearted and selfless nature, which made her a beloved figure among her peers.

Christenia was employed as a custodian for Dorchester School District Four, where she demonstrated a strong work ethic and dedication to her job. Additionally, she worked as a transportation driver for the Dorchester County Department of Social Services, where she was highly valued by her colleagues and the people she served.

One of Christenia's most notable passions was gardening. She had a particular love for flowers and was renowned for her ability to cultivate and maintain beautiful gardens. In fact, she took great pleasure in not only tending to her own garden but also helping her neighbors, Roxanne and Six-pack, decorate their yards for various holidays. Her generosity and kind-hearted nature were evident in every aspect of her life, and she was deeply loved and respected by all who knew her.

Christenia's ministry extended beyond her church, and she was a regular fixture at Bethel AME events, where she directed parking and built lasting relationships with attendees. Her dedication to serving her community was admirable, and she was always eager to support the best candidates during pre- and post-election seasons. Christenia's legacy of service and commitment will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

We humbly remember and offer our sincerest tribute to Christenia and all her cherished family members who have passed away. Her beloved parents, whose guidance and unwavering love shaped her into the exceptional person she was, occupy a special place in her heart and memory. Furthermore, her dear sister Ruby Stephens, whose infectious laughter and kind spirit brought so much joy to those around her, is sorely missed. In addition, we honor and hold dear her in-laws Nathaniel Riley, Steven Stephens, and Elizabeth Hodges, who were all instrumental in creating a warm and welcoming family environment. Lastly, we pay homage to her beloved nephew John Hunt, III, who brought so much light and love into her life. Although their passing has left a deep sense of sadness, we take comfort in knowing that Christenia will be reunited with them in the hereafter and that their memories will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.

She was a person of exceptional kindness, firmness, and empathy, and her absence has created a profound emptiness in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing her. Her legacy will forever be marked by her gentle and compassionate nature, as well as the enduring positive impact she had on the lives of those around her.

Christenia was a loving mother that is survived by her three children: Eric (Evelyn) Hodges from Holly Hill, S.C., Marvin (Melissa) Hodges, and Angela Hodges from St. George, SC. Christenia was also a cherished grandmother to six grandchildren, namely Eshean Hodges from St. George, SC, Demondray Dingle, Domonique Dingle from Holly Hill, SC, Khaliah Belton, Rosemarie Cummings, and Emoree Pompey from St. George, SC. Her unwavering love and devotion to her family will always be remembered. Her absence leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.

Christenia was the youngest of five; she leaves to cherish her forever memories her siblings, Frances Riley, Gertie Stokes, and Edward Hodges, who will undoubtedly mourn her deeply, in addition to her special sister Roxanne Hodges and Great Niece Heather Hill. Her Uncle and Aunt, Leroy (Dorothy) Hodges, as well as her nieces and nephews, including Minister Sharon Hunt of Charlotte, NC, Ronald Riley, Dr. India (Rodney) Riley-Murray, Ron (Jennifer) Hodges, Rainey (Moses) Riley-White, Latandra Hodges, Millie Johnson of St. George, SC, and Shanika (Kendrick) Riley-Jenkins of Atlanta Georgia, who will undoubtedly miss her deeply. May she rest in eternal peace.

Christenia was also blessed with great nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends who will cherish her forever memories. Honorary children Nikko Robertson, Syreeta Williams, Kasha Pompey, and Godchild-Shonnell Jamison. Honorary brothers Norman Neals, Leroy Britt, and Monroe Sligh, who will feel this loss acutely.

Christenia held her relationships with her beloved family and dear friends in the highest regard. Even the mere thought of each individual - Virginia Barr, Queen Bowman, Edith Oldham, Dr. Kenneth Jenkins, Ernest Ott, Annette Bryant, Beverly Hudson, and Julia Mae Duggins - filled her heart with an immense sense of tenderness and fondness that she knew would endure for a lifetime. Each of these individuals had played a significant role in Christenia's life, and their impact on her was immeasurable.
