Chester Allen Henderson was born on August 22, 1939 on the Orangeburg County side of Dorange, SC to the Hiawatha (Jack) and Julia Mae Frederick Henderson. Chester was the oldest of five children.

Chester was educated in the Dorchester County School System. He left home at an early age to work in Brooklyn, New York. Chester worked for a laundry company and soon after became their first black driver.

After a few years Chester returned to South Carolina. Chester married the late Edna Govan Henderson. To this union one daughter was born

Chester obtained his CDL license and became a superb interstate truck driver for over 35 years until he retired. Chester was known in the Hudsontown Community for his hoarse voice, radical personality and gap toothed smile.

In 1992, Chester moved to Mt. Vernon, New York, where he had a host of friends who affectionately called him the "Mayor". He earned the title because of his boisterous personality and words of wisdom. Chester loved reading and was very passionate about current affairs and black history. Most of all he loved his family. He was well loved and will be greatly missed.

Chester was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Govan Henderson and his youngest brother, Horace Jerome Henderson.

He leaves to chersih his fond memories, his daughter, Denise Aileen (Greg) Henderson-Bryant, step daughter, Charlene Govan of Titusville, FL; step son, Marion (Cynthia) Govan of Suffolk, VA; two sisters, Leathe Mae Thompson of Summerville, SC and Caroline Henderson of Dorange, SC; one brother, Paul Henderson of Jersey City, NJ; nine grandchildren, Rakim, Markelle, Trevon, Greg II, Marion, Corey, Michael, Joshua and Faith; three great grandchildren, Aryanna, Jocelyn and Jaylen; three aunts, Sarah Jane Holmes and Henrietta West both of Branchville, SC and Lutisha Simmons of Hollywood, SC; best friend Paul Hairston of Mt. Vernon, NY; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
