Celestine T. Spruill, known to her family as Toni, was born to Ziola and Dorothy, the oldest of nine children, on July 17, 1950 in Charleston, SC.  She attended primary schools in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Sarah J Hale High School in 1969.

Celestine married Freddie Spruill in 1969 in Brooklyn, NY and together they had two children, Monique and Demetrius, known as Lamont.  Celestine began her career as a New York School Safety Officer in 1974.  She worked in some of the most dangerous schools in Brooklyn during the height of her career.  In a position of service, Celeste kept order in the schools but she also affected the most positive change in the students she encountered.  After retiring in 2006, she returned to South Carolina and resided in St. George until the time of her passing.

In retirement, Celestine continued her gift of service by becoming a foster parent.  She fostered several children and always went the extra mile to make sure they felt loved and were well cared for.  Celestine also worked part-time at St. George Nursing Home as a receptionist.

A very active member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Celestine held several roles in ministry including Secretary of the Sunday School Department, Treasurer of the Women's Ministry, Pastor's Aide, Assistant of Kitchen Ministry and member of the Senior's Overseers Ministry.

Celestine enjoyed spending time with her family during the summer and also during the holidays.  She looked forward to family gatherings and celebrations.  She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed watching movies.

She leaves to honor her legacy, her children, Demetrius (Lenka) and Monique (Rawle); her grandchildren, Tonisha (Jamel), Yanika, Zion, Ashia and Zoe; her great grandchildren, EliJah, Evan and Emilee; her sisters, Charlene (Gerald), Alethia, and Darlene; brothers, Walter, Eugene (Tina), Randy (Mary) and Patrick (Vernethia); a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her father, Ziola, mother, Dorothy, sister, Adelle, niece Ebony and nephew, Gerald.

Her family and friends remember her as a beacon of light who always lent her services as a gift of love.
