On Monday, December 20, 2010, Carl Britt tipped his hat and marched on to glory and we lost an unbelievable man who was a husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend.

Carl was born April 2, 1943 in St. George, South Carolina to the late Fletcher and Prince Marion Calloway-Britt. At an early age he became a member of Bethel Baptist Church in St. George (Texas Community), SC, where he received his Christian education along with his two sisters and his older brother, Fletcher Britt, Jr., who has predeceased him.

Carl graduated from Williams Memorial High School in St. George, SC.

Carl started his career at Welbilt Stove Company and worked there for many years. Carl then became a jewelry maker in the Diamond District of New York, one of the primary centers of the global diamond industry. After many dedicated years, Carl retired from the jewelry business. However, he was not a man to be idle for too long and in his retirement he took on the noble responsibility of driving a school bus for the local community of Deer Park. His peers honored Carl by electing him shop steward of I.B.T. Local 1205.

Carl leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Ellen; his devoted son, Carl and his wife, Daisy; grandson, Aaron Britt and granddaughter, Carly Kayla Britt; sisters, Gertrude Britt Holman and Rose Britt Harris; aunts, Margaret B Stokes, Clara D Britt, Julia Brooks, and Bernice Mack; uncle, Amos Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and a myriad of friends.
Carl was a kind of man that always had a funny story to tell with a heart-felt laugh to follow. He was a great listener and gave you guidance without judgment. Carl loved to come home to celebrate life with his family and friends and would always arrive sharply dressed and his hat tilted to the side.
Sleep on Carl and take your rest. We all loved you, but God loved you best.
