Bishop Herbert Kitt peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on March 19, 2026. He was born on February 11, 1941, in Dorchester County, South Carolina, to Lawrence Kitt and Ada Bell Kelly Kitt. He was raised in St. George, South Carolina, where he received his education in the public school system.

On January 23, 1961, Bishop Kitt was united in holy matrimony to Annie Evelyn Gadson of Altamonte Springs, Florida. Their loving union of 65 years was blessed with ten children—five living and five who preceded him in death. To all who knew them, Bishop and Mother Kitt stood as a living testimony of faithfulness, devotion, and God's sustaining love.

At an early age, Bishop Kitt recognized that God had placed a special calling upon his life. Though he initially tried to run from that call, he came to understand that one cannot outrun the will of God. In 1968, he returned home and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. One year later, in 1969, he fully surrendered to the call to preach the Gospel.

From 1969 to 1980, Bishop Kitt served faithfully as an evangelist, proclaiming the Word of God with conviction and compassion. In 1982, through the inspiration of the Whole Truth radio broadcast, God placed it upon his heart to establish the Whole Truth Church, where he ministered in accordance with Apostolic doctrine and the leading of the Holy Ghost.

Even while serving in ministry, Bishop Kitt remained committed to spiritual and academic growth. He studied the Old and New Testaments and Effective Speech at Southern Baptist College (now Charleston Southern University). He also earned a diploma from Zion Faith College, where he studied Christian Character, the Doctrines of Grace, the Gospel of Mark, and Corinthians. Bishop Kitt held ministerial credentials from the United Church of Jesus Christ, Southern Diocese, and was ordained as both Overseer and Bishop.

Bishop Kitt was known for his strong work ethic and dedication in the workforce. He was employed with Piggly Wiggly Carolina Company for 40 years as a truck driver. Upon retirement, he became an independent truck driver, serving as an owner-operator for two years. He then continued to serve his community as a bus driver for Dorchester School District Four, a public transportation driver for Dorchester County, and as a security officer for Chief Security Services.

Bishop Kitt was also a faithful and dedicated member of the Dorchester County Ministerial Alliance for many years.   He demonstrated an unparalleled work ethic throughout his life. Yet, his most important work and greatest passion was his service to God and to God's people.

Throughout his life, Bishop Kitt remained steadfast in declaring biblical truth and upholding the creed and discipline of the Whole Truth Church: the unchanging Word of God as revealed by the Holy Ghost.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Kitt and Ada Bell Kelly Kitt; his brothers, Julius, Richard, and Leroy Kitt; his son, Gerald Kitt, a great-grandson, Sevani Stevenson; his father-in-law, Napoleon Gadson; and sisters-in-law, Nadine Kitt and Mary Gadson Henry.

He leaves to cherish his legacy his devoted wife, Mother Annie Evelyn Gadson Kitt; his children:  Curtis N. Gadson (Brenda) of Sanford, Florida; Elder Herbert Demetrist Kitt of St. George, South Carolina; Minister Darold Kitt (Diane) of St. George, South Carolina; Pastor Joseph L. Kitt (Cassandra) of Summerville, South Carolina; and Evelyn I. Kitt Wilson (John) of Florence, South Carolina. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Kitt of Accokeek, Maryland; his sister, JoAnn Kitt of Harlem, New York; his aunt, Ruby Gadson of Altamonte Springs, Florida; his brother-in-law, Willie Hill of Orlando, Florida; and his sisters-in-law: Lois Kitt of Charleston, South Carolina; Rosie Daniels Rose of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Joy Hill Whitaker of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and Rosetta Frazier Kitt Mitchell of Hollywood, SC.

He will also be lovingly remembered by 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and members of his spiritual family whose lives were forever touched by his ministry and example.

Bishop Herbert Kitt's life was a living sermon—a message of redemption, perseverance, and unwavering faith in God. Though his voice is now silent, his legacy resounds through the lives he touched and the truths he faithfully proclaimed.
