Birdie Mae Jennings Britt, daughter of the late Mr. Silas Jennings and Lula Bell Simmons was born November 30, 1924 in Dorchester County.

On August 19, 2010, God looked down upon the earth and saw a beautiful flower, he plucked it and took it back to heaven with him. God called her home for her work on earth was done and he wanted her to receive her reward, eternal life.

She attended public schools in Dorchester County. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Preston Britt. To this union, six children were born.

Recognizing the call from God on her life , she accepted Jesus as her savior and received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost at an early age. She joined New Hope AME Church and was a diligent worker. Her love for God was so strong, she joined the Heavenly Gospel Singers, spreading the good news of Jesus for many years.

After marriage, she joined St. Mark Baptist Church where she served as a faithful and devoted Christian soldier in various boards of the church, including the Pastor's Aid Board President, Willing Workers President, President of the Senior Choir, Missionary worker and prayer band warrior. She loved God, her church, her family and friends. Her words, deeds and actions were a testament to her faith and belief in God..

She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Britt and one daughter, Margaret Britt. Five siblings also preceded her in death — Reverend Daniel Jennings, Steven Jennings, Henry Jennings, James Jennings and Edith McCormick.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Preston (Margaret) Britt, Jr. of Seattle, Washington, Ellard Vincent (Jeanette) Britt of St. George, SC,; three daughters, Lula B. (Sam) McKinney, Lillie R. Britt, and Mayola L. (Leroy) James all of St. George, SC; one twin brother, Walter Jennings of Summerville, SC; nine grandchildren, Dwayne Drummund of Long Island, NY, Jeffrey (Kim) Britt of Portland, Oregon, Latricia Britt and Tremaine McKinney of Seattle, Washington, Genita (Barrett) Davis of St. George, SC, Calandra Jenkins of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Tiffany (Laterrance) Hopkins, Kacy Britt and Nicholas James all of St. George, SC; twelve great grandchildren; one Goddaughter, Juanita Jennings Glover of Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
