Obituary

Mrs. Beulah Lary DeLee, was born on November 30, 1921, in Dorchester County, South Carolina to the late Harrison Lary and Mary Elmore. She went peaceably to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 17, 2010, after an extended illness.

"Aunt Beulah" as she was affectionately known, was reared in the Bend Section of Dorchester and attended the public schools there.

Aunt Beulah was united in holy matrimony to the late Matthew "Ugie" DeLee and from this union, three children were born. The oldest, Herbert, preceded her in death.

In her early youth, she joined St. Daniel United Methodist Church. She later became a member of Surprise Baptist Church where she remained faithful until her illness. She served as a church secretary, Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Senior Choir.

Aunt Beulah was a very special person. She was soft spoken but very firm. Her infectious smile touched everyone that she met. She was very devoted to her family and her church. Until she became unable to drive, she was always the first person to arrive at church. Her former pastor, the late Reverend James D. Riley, Sr., used to refer to her as "the Deacon."

She leaves to cherish her memories two children - a daughter, Zeddie (Joseph) Boyd of Harleyville and a son, Hermon DeLee of Dorchester; two sisters-in-law, Cora DeLee and Addie Summers; one daughter-in-law, Carrie Belle DeLee; one son-in-law, Joseph Boyd; five grandchildren, Brenda, Don, Alisa, Stephen and Denise; six great-grandchildren, Crystal, Dontrell, Don Michael, Janee, Brainard, Michael and Christyiana; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
