Obituary

Betty Ruth Hopkins was born in St. George, SC on February 24, 1952, the second child of the late Owens Hopkins, Sr. and Lue Bertha Street Hopkins. She transitioned on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Trident Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Betty was educated in the Public Schools of Dorchester County and graduated from Williams Memorial High School-the Class of 1969. After graduating she moved to New York and worked for New York Tell(AT&T) for 14 years. After relocating back to South Carolina, Betty furthered her education at Trident Technical College with an Associates Degree in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Charleston Southern University. At an early age she joined St. Mark Baptist Church. Betty accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior.

Betty gained wisdom, knowledge, and understanding from reading her favorite book-The Bible. Throughout the years, she filled her bedroom with biblical sayings and angels. One of her favorite sayings was that she loved so much and our mother taught us: 'You treat people the way you want to be treated.'

Preceding her in death are her parents-Owens Hopkins, Sr. and Lue Bertha Street Hopkins; two brothers-Deacon Odis Hopkins and Ronald Hopkins; niece-Selita Hopkins and brother-in-law-Vantresse McMillan.

Betty leaves to cherish her fond memories: three sisters-Mabel Hopkins, Cynthia Hopkins, and Linda McMillan; two brothers-Gregory Hopkins and Owens Hopkins, Jr.; sisters-in-law-Claudette Hopkins, Carrie B. Hopkins, Carrie M. Hopkins, Allison Hopkins; aunts-Nellie Risher, Dorothy Hopkins, Lizzie M. Hopkins; grand uncle-Arrie(Clementine) Gadson; grand aunt-Corine Gatson; nephews-Laterrance (Tinka), Len Owens, Romauri, Vantrel and Rondell; nieces-Rita, Anaja, Kim, Laquesha; grand nephews-Jaylan, Jerell, Ayden, Donovan and Tabari; grand nieces-Amiyah, Aaliyah, Lenaii, Lailah, Davina, and Rhyle. Also, a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
