Betty Jean Cusack Singletary, the eldest daughter of the late Kingmon and Eula Mae DeLee Cusack, entered eternal rest on Friday, December 12, 2025, at her home in Sumter, SC.
Betty was born July 7, 1943, in Dorchester, South Carolina. She graduated from Kennedy High School (Class of 1961) in Harleyville, South Carolina. She continued her education at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
On August 13, 1964, she was united in holy matrimony to Jay Hazel Singletary. As newlyweds, they embarked on a journey and moved to New York City. They had two children - a son, Bernard, and a daughter, Felicia.
Betty took a rigorous exam and was hired at the Internal Revenue Service upon her arrival in New York. Driven by ambition, she left the Internal Revenue Service and headed to Wall Street. There, she secured a position as the Administrator of Accounts and Records for the New York Stock Exchange Securities Industry Automation Corporation (SIAC). Betty wrote physical transfers and legal procedures for the company. She also worked on collateral loans for brokers nationwide.
Her husband, Jay; sister, Patricia Britt; and brothers, Rufus, Reginald, and Luhaze Cusack, preceded her in death.
Betty leaves to mourn and entrust her legacy to her son, Bernard Quincy Singletary, of Columbia, South Carolina, and her daughter, Dr. Felicia D. Singletary, of Wendell, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Destiny Hill, Justin Singletary, Kobe Singletary, and Brandon Singletary; and one great-grandchild, Kyomi Singletary.
One aunt, Willie Lee Cusack; one brother, Willie Joe Cusack; five sisters, Ollie C. Smith, Gerona Anderson, Claretha Riley (Michel), Jacqueline Simons, and Carol Cusack; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and her beloved dog, Chauncey.
