Bertha Haynes, Bert, as she was affectionately known, was the daughter of Matthew and Eunice Johnson Haynes.  She was born on July 7, 1954.  Bertha attended Williams Memorial High School in St. George, SC.  While in high school Bertha made herself available to work as a secretary while attending school.

After graduation, Bertha started her career at the Department of Social Services.  She worked for 36 years helping the residents of Dorchester County with their economic needs.  After retiring, Bertha realized her desires to continue helping others were great, so she returned to work.  She also worked several part-time jobs, but most recently she was an employee at Week's Department Store in St. George, South Carolina.

After a brief illness, she was admitted to Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, South Carolina.  On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 5:00 am, Bertha departed from this world.  The Nurses kept a close eye on her and prayed with her until the end of her earthly life.  Bert was a quiet soul, but if she saw the need to lend a helping hand, that was what she would do.  Bertha was always ready to be of assistance, no matter what the cause.

Bert was previously married and to this union one daughter was born.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Fannie Bell Haynes Easter.

Her fine memories will be cherished by her daughter, Nikki Primus (Ronald) Elmore of Walterboro, SC; two grandchildren, Ronika Elmore of St. George, SC and Nicholas Elmore of Walterboro, SC; two great grandsons, Grayson Young Elmore, of St. George, SC; one brother, Bobby Joe Haynes of St. George, SC; one sister, Linda Haynes Manigo of Walterboro, SC and Nicholas Johnson and Family of Walterboro, SC.  She is also survived by nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Bertha, you will be dearly missed by your family.  We all await the fulfillment of Revelation 21:4 "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.  The former things have passed away."
