Mrs. Bertha Jenkins- Edwards daughter of the late Monroe Jenkins, Sr. and the late Bessie Primus, was born December 1, 1946, in Dorchester County, South Carolina. She entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at home peacefully.
She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late James Marion Edwards. This union was blessed with two beautiful children, Darlene and Barrian.
Bertha was a 1964 graduate of Williams Memorial High School. After graduating from high school, she moved to Brooklyn, New York. Bertha moved back to St. George, SC in 1978 after the passing of her husband. Bertha retired in 2017 from Dorchester County School District Four as a custodian in St. George where she was loved by teachers, staff and the students.
Bertha confessed her faith and joined St. Peter UMC (known as New Grace UMC) where she held several positions until her health failed. In her personal time, Bertha's passion was sewing. She designed and sewed unique outfits for many people in the surrounding areas of Dorchester County, a hobby that brought her endless happiness and allowed her creativity to shine, leaving a legacy of beautiful garments for countless clients. Bertha had an outgoing smile that would light up a room. She loved her family and was loved by many. She had an extraordinary love for her grandchildren, her brothers and sister, and all her nieces and nephews whom she loved unconditionally. She also treasured the special longtime friend relationship with Mrs. Delorise Addison.
Her husband, James Marion Edwards; one brother Monroe Jenkins, Jr.; brother-in-law James Cobbs and sister-in-law Brenda Jenkins proceeded her in death.
With precious memories, she will be sorely missed by her devoted daughter Darlene Edwards of Orangeburg, SCand a loving son James Barrian Edwards (Desiree Rolack) of St. George, SC. One sister Elizabeth Cobbs of St. George, SC (Washington, DC), two brothers Willie James Jenkins of St. George, SC and Johnny Morris Jenkins (Hester) Jenkins of Florence, SC. Three grandsons that was her heart Arkel Edwards of Bowman, SC: Ty' Ree Edwards of St. George, SC and Kaleal Edwards of Savannah, GA. One granddaughter who was her queen Nia Nykia (Jeroid) Simmons of Goose Creek, SC and one great granddaughter Ava Ailani Simmons of Goose Creek, SC. One aunt Lily Bell Bryant of St. George, SC. Her presence also will be greatly missed by sister-in-law Evangelist Leola (Pastor David) Edwards-Sackiel of Harleyville, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
