Obituary

Mother Bernice Gilyard Green, daughter of the late Mr. James "Bossy" Gilyard and Mrs. Mattie Mae Williams Gilyard, was born on September 27, 1928 in Bowman, South Carolina.  After a beautiful life of love, happiness and service to Our Lord, she answered His call to come home to rest on Monday, August 30, 2021 at her residence.

Grandma as the entire family called her, was loving, generous and a wonderful light to her family.  She grew up in Bowman, South Carolina and attended the public school there.  She was an outstanding cook and housekeeper for several families in the community.  She loved attending to her beautiful flower garden and always tried to keep it going.  She also was a baker of delicious cakes and was an excellent cook for her family and for functions at the church.

Mrs. Bernice was joined in holy wedlock to Mr. George Allen.  They were blessed with nine children; six daughters and three sons.  Mr. George and three of the children, George, Jr., James and Rose preceded her in death.

She was a member of Second Providence Baptist Church where she gave her service as a member of the Missionary Society, The Pastor's Aid Board and the Usher Board.  She was a joyful worshipper and made herself known as a person who was happy in the Lord.  She was loved by all who knew her, and the church would rejoice to see her in worship.  She will be missed dearly.

Grandma leaves her legacy of love, service and dedication with her daughters:  Mrs. Londell Miller of Brooklyn, NY, Mrs. Maggie Bellamy, Ms. Mary Allen, Ms. Gloria Green and Ms. Jeanne Green all of Bowman, SC; one son, Mr. Jackie (Gloria) Green of Bowman, SC; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Evans of Brooklyn, NY; thirty-four grandchildren; seventy one great grandchildren; thirty four great, great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mabell Green Little; two brothers-in-law, Mr. James Sammie Green and Mr. Daniel Green; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, the church family and many friends.
