Bernard Toomer was born June 24, 1942 in Saint George, South Carolina to the late Toursette and Catherine Toomer.  He departed this earthly home on May 7, 2022 in his hometown, St. George, South Carolina.

Bernard was a lifelong member of St. Mark Baptist Church.  At a young age Bernard set out to explore the world by moving to New Paltz, New York.  While in New Paltz he met and married Adrenna Oliver.  After marriage, the couple decided to relocate to Brooklyn, New York where they raised their six children.  Bernard was a career truck driver.  He drove trucks until he retired.  Once Bernard retired, he felt the need to return home to his hometown of Saint George.

Bernard was a quiet man who enjoyed a good laugh.  He enjoyed being around family and friends.  Those who knew him will truly miss his presence.

Bernard was preceded in death by his children, Debbie Toomer and Travon Toomer; a granddaughter, Aja; and his siblings, Gene Toomer, Charlie Toomer, Emma Mae Boyd and Joyce Cumbo.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his children, Holly T. Minnis, Bernard Toomer, Jr., Michael Toomer, and Sonji Toomer; grandchildren, Courtney, Debbie, Nia and Ashley; great grandchildren, Adonis, Amaiya and A'mere; siblings, Brenda Toomer, Betty Toomer, Shirley Cole and Allan Toomer; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
