Benny Belvin Lumpkins, Sr. was born on May 24, 1956 in Alamo, GA to the late Mr. James Lumpkins, Sr. and Bessie Louise Collins Lumpkins. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on April 1, 2025.

As a young boy, Benny, along with his parents and older brothers, moved to Holly Hill, SC, where he began his education and developed a passion for drawing. The family later relocated to Charleston, SC, where Benny attended Charleston High School, graduating with honors. In 1974, Benny enlisted in the United Stated Marine Corps, training at Parris Island, SC before transitioning to a reserve role at the Naval Shipyard in Charleston.

Benny's career began at Landmark Construction, where his dedication and skills propelled him through the ranks to the position of Lead Foreman. He trained over 75 men and women throughout his career, always striving to help others succeed. One of his proudest moments was when he saved the life of a coworker, by pulling him from a sinking manhole. Benny's work took him to various places throughout South Carolina, including Barnwell, Lugoff, and Beaufort before finally settling in his beloved North Charleston where he received a promotion to Utility Foreman at Landmark Construction.

Benny met Kattie Mae Samuels in 1998, the two were married on January 7, 2000 in Charleston SC and relocated to rural Ridgeville, SC. They remained faithfully committed and dedicated to loving one another through life's ups and downs for 25 years, 2 months and 25 days. Their love will live on.

Children include: Teresa Corvette Lumpkins of Columbia, SC, Christina Nicole (Tyrone) Kelly of St. George, SC, and Benny Belvin "Hook" (Angela) Lumpkins II, Aviation Ordnanceman Petty Officer First Class in the United States Navy, of San Diego, CA; his six grandchildren-Kylii Lumpkins, Keyovonni Lumpkins, Kareem Lumpkins, Malakai Kelly, and Tyshayna Kelly, Kaedon Lumpkins; Clarence Samuels (Tameka) of Summerville, SC, and Micheal Samuels of Summerville, SC; two grandchildren, Vivian Perry and Feona "Moo Moo" Samuels, seven great grandchildren Keyara, Keeveion, Keylajah, Lillie, Faith, Mariah, and Faith; one great great grandson, Jah'Sier "Bean" Samuels due 7/25 whom Mr. Benny knew existed before any of us. His grandchildren were all a constant source of joy for him. He brightened up like a ray of sunshine when they walked in the room.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bessie Louise Lumpkins, and his siblings: Trudy Thomas Dennis, Bobby Mathis, James Lumpkins, Olvinn James Lumpkins, And Emmett V. Lumpkins.

Benny to some, Mr. Benny to others and Poppa Benny to a few, leaves behind to cherish his fond memories, his wife Kattie Mae Lumpkins, his children, grandchildren, sister-in-law, Claudia Lumpkins, Ciji Hill, Malaki Simmons, Terry & Trent Chance, nieces, nephews, many dear friends and loved ones; Benny's legacy of kindness, hard work, and devotion to his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
