Obituary

Mr. Bennie Summers, passed away Peacefully, Wednesday, May 06, 2020 at his home in Harleyville, South Carolina.  He was born on October 10, 1933 in Reesville, S.C., the son of the late Clarence Summers and Minnie Stokes Summers, both preceding him in death.

Bennie was joined in marriage to Joanne Lawton Summers in 1965.  This union was blessed with two sons and two daughters.

He worked for The State Department, then onto Salisbury Brick Company for many years, as he moved onto his passion of driving 16 to 18-wheeler trucks, he joined Santee Carrie, and onto Smith Trucking of Bowman, SC where he found his trucking family home.  He was known for his knowledge of the Roads, talkative, easy going, friendly smile, and most of all his respectfulness for others.

Bennie was proceeded in death by his oldest daughter, Hildaguard Summers, of Brooklyn New York; granddaughter, Ashley Neals; and grandson, Terrell Riley.  He was a member of Saint Daniel United Methodist Church.   He was a very kind and loving person who would do his very best to help anyone in need.  His smile and laughter were an inspiration to many.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Joanne Lawton Summers of Harleyville, SC; two devoted sons, Malcolm (Ethel Lee) Summers of Orangeburg, SC and  Alexander (Stephanie) Summers of Jacksonville, FL; two loving daughters, Elaine (Andrew) Wright, of Athens, Ga and LaTari (Delvin) Davis, of Orangeburg, SC; two brothers, Allen Summers of Brooklyn, NY and Clyde Summers of Atlanta, GA; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
