Benjamin "Pete" Grant was born on December 6, 1946, to his late mother, Rose Hopson. Pete went to school in Birmingham, AL where he graduated from high school. Pete enlisted in the US army to serve his country. Pete was honorably discharged from the military.

Benjamin "Pete" Grant was a charismatic man of love and laughter. Witty and quick to speak the truth. Even in chastising you, he had a great sense of humor and at times you didn't know whether to laugh or cry. But most of all, anyone who knew Pete knew he came from a lineage of southern roots and respect. Pete made his entry into the world as a man who would live his life to the fullest. I know if he could speak his most famous words were (At Ease) I don't want to see anyone crying in here you're here, you celebrate my life.

Pete later met his late wife, Aretha Major Grant and they settled in Brooklyn, New York. They shared a son Sean. Pete worked for New York City mass transit as a train conductor. Later on, they retired to St. George South Carolina.

Pete leaves behind his daughter, Danene, sons, Terrance, and Sean; 2 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; his sister, Diane Boylan; aunt Ethal Vale; nephews Terrel, Sean, Andre, and Wayne; nieces Claudette, Sherry, Sharene, and Carol; 11 great nieces and nephews; a special friend, Patricia Mccain; a host other relatives and friends. We want to give special thanks to Wanda Wactor who was with Pete during his time of illness. Wanda also assisted Shawn in his time of need.
