Articleese Jones-Britt, the youngest of three children born to the late William Clark Jones and the late Daisy Gibbson-Jones, on September 15, 1927, in Trenton (Mercer County) New Jersey. After a long illness, she departed this life peacefully, at the age of 84, from her 355 Alonzo Rd. home in St. George, SC on Tuesday March 27, 2012.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Daniel Britt Sr. November 13, 1950. To this union was born one son, Daniel Britt Jr.

She was employed at Westinghouse in New Jersey for several years before accepting a position in the New Jersey Department of Corrections as a Cottage Officer for the State Home for Girls, Trenton Campus. When the State Girls and Boys Home merged, she transferred to the Jamesburg Campus and later to the Skillman Campus from which she retired after more than 31 years of faithful service.

After retirement in the early '80's, Mr. & Mrs. Britt built a home in his childhood hometown of St. George, South Carolina, where she lovingly nursed her husband through a long illness until his death in March of 2001.

Mrs. Britt was affiliated with the Friendship Baptist Church and later joined the Galilee Baptist Church both in Trenton, New Jersey. After moving to St. George, SC, she united with the St. Mark Baptist Church in the Texas community as a faithfully supportive member.

To those who didn't know her she seemed a politely quiet, shy woman. Known to some of her friends as "Artie" and to others as "Clee," she often referred to herself as "a homebody." But to those who knew and loved her best, she was the most loving, genuine and generous kind of mom, aunt, friend and counselor, with a quirky sense of humor who loved arts & crafts, antiques, and anything handmade. She loved chasing a good deal or sale, and was often teased about being "frugally cheap" which would cause her to let out a hearty laugh. Those who took time to get to know her often commented, "I didn't know Ms. Clee was so much fun!" She was most appreciated for her cooking and baking skills. Yes, Aunt Clee truly loved us and life. But she loved the LORD even more, and wanted more than anything to be with Him. She demonstrated her faith encouraging all around her, communicating with the Father, calling on the name of the LORD until the end. Although we will miss her physical presence, she will never be far from our hearts or memories.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dan and a brother, William Tallmage "Tally" Jones of Trenton, NJ.

She leaves to morn her demise one son Daniel Britt Jr., of the home; Her eldest brother: Mervin Lorenzo Jones of Ewing Township, NJ, and his children: Mervin Jones Jr., of N. Charleston, SC; Roslyn Jones of Willingboro, NJ; Wayne Jones of Blackwood, NJ; and Linda Jones of Willingboro, NJ and his grandchildren. Tally's step-daughter Francis Billingsly of Trenton, NJ; Two step-sons Alonzo Britt, of England, United Kingdom; Larry Surles of Canada; Two Step-daughters: Barbra Ann Britt-(William) Washington, of Camarillo CA; Fawn Britt-("Jonsesy") Jones, of Oak City, NC; Three Sisters-in-law Jeannette Britt-Dillard of St. George; Pineathea Britt-Reed of Los Angeles CA.; Wilameana Britt-Gaul of Hempstead, NY and a host of step-grands & great-grands, nieces, nephews, 2 adopted children: Chaplain Eddie Lee and Patricia McLain-Morris, several beloved God-Children and dedicated caregivers and friends.
