Arrie Gadson was born on May 18, 1936, the youngest son of the late Johnny Gadson and Chissie Gadson. Arrie Gadson departed this life on December 4,2025.
At an early age, Arrie joined St. Mark Baptist Church. As a young man, Arrie moved to Brooklyn, New York, with his older siblings. He married Clementine Hendricks in May 1961, and to this union five children were born.
Arrie was employed as a carpenter at Arlyn Lumber Company in Brooklyn, where he worked for more than thirty years before retiring in 1996. After retirement, he returned to his hometown of St. George, South Carolina. He rejoined his home church, St. Mark Baptist Church, where he was an active member of the Male Chorus and served faithfully as a Trustee. He worked diligently with his fellow trustees to maintain the church grounds and cemetery.
Arrie was preceded in death by his son, Arrie Gadson, Jr., his siblings, Maebelle Street, Alfaire Primus, Elouise Cobbs, Pernese Summers, Frances Carson, Barney Gadson, Eddie (Sport) Gadson, Minnie Lee Heyward, and Mattie Murray.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories his loving and devoted wife, Clementine Gadson; his children, Shirdawn Nicole Gadson, Linda Rochelle Gadson, Michael Gadson and Barney Gadson; grandchildren, Dontae Gadson, Shante Crawley, Dominique Gadson, Taylor Gadson, Chaz Hofler and Darius Gadson; seven great grandchildren; step sisters, Mary Smith and Martha (Fred) Clark; sister-in-law, Corine Gadson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
